Edouard Mendy - The Blues goalkeeper was untested in the opening half of the match and faced more pressure in the second. The Senegal international should have been stronger in dealing with the corner that led to Michail Antonio's goal. Chelsea's stopper went down before Maxwell Cornet put the ball in the net and was fortunate to see the goal ruled out. 5.
Wesley Fofana - The new Chelsea defender received quite the reception with each tackle he made and showed the ability to move forward with the ball too. A solid if unspectacular first outing. 6.
Thiago Silva - Managed to stay a step ahead of Antonio for most of the game to the extent the Irons star almost put him in a headlock in one attempt to break forward. 7.
Kalidou Koulibaly - Showed plenty of strength in his challenges on the left but perhaps could have offered Marc Cucurella more support as Chelsea probed. His passing was not as high quality as he displayed earlier in his Blues tenure. 6.

Reece James - The wing-back was the player Chelsea primarily looked to when camped in the Hammers half but was often faced with stagnant targets. Not James' most electric outing, but he was unafraid to be competitive with Antonio. Nearly allowed the Hammers in with his poor header at the death. 6.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek - The midfielder made his fifth start in a row and opened the game with some strong challenges but picked up a yellow card after just nine minutes. Generally shown as an option for the back three to play the ball in a solid outing. 6.
Conor Gallagher - A more appropriate role for the young midfielder, and Chelsea were shown a glimpse of his battling tenacity in a more controlled form. He failed to offer too much going forward, however. 6.
Mateo Kovacic - The Croatian showed some good passing but did not take control of the tempo how he so often can. A decent number of minutes in building his fitness. 6.
Marc Cucurella - The Spaniard was unfortunate to pick up a yellow card in the opening half and provided a consistent presence up and down the left flank. His dead-ball deliveries may need some work, however. 6.
Christian Pulisic - It was the first start of the season for the American, and was perhaps Chelsea's most likely player to threaten the opposition goal in the opening half. Found himself searching deep for the ball, too, however. 6.
Raheem Sterling - The England international played some fantastic balls throughout the game, even if he couldn't get beyond the backline of David Moyes' side. 6.
Substitutes
Armando Broja - Once again brought energy to his Chelsea outing and offered the Blues a figure more willing to gamble in the box. 6.
Mason Mount - The 23-year-old showed some good touches during his substitute appearance but again struggled to have a big impact. 5.
Ben Chilwell - Delivered a quite frankly outrageous finish through Lukasz Fabianski's legs, having reacted best to his own header. Changed the game and delivered the ball to Kai Havertz to net the winner. 8.
Kai Havertz - Provided some good pressure to the West Ham backline during his 20-minute cameo and found himself in the perfect position to net the most important goal of the game. 7.
Jorginho - Had less than 10 minutes to make his mark. Unfortunately, his memorable moment saw him dispossessed as Maxwel Cornet almost won the game for West Ham. 4.
