Chelsea vs West Ham live: Enzo Fernandez strikes in stoppage time to complete comeback as Todibo sent off

Chelsea inflicted heartbreak on an impressive West Ham by scoring three goals in the second half of the contest at Stamford Bridge to complete a 3-2 comeback victory and give Liam Rosenior a sixth win from seven matches in charge.

Rosenior had made seven changes to his starting XI from Chelsea’s previous outing and it didn’t work. The Blues were disjointed, poor and unable to assert any authority on the game. West Ham, through the combination of Jarrod Bowen and Aaron Wan-Bissaka caused real problems on the right wing and it was from here that the goals came.

Bowen scored the first from an attempted cross before Crysencio Summerville added a second after a cutback into the box.

Rosenior made a triple change at the break and the momentum swung in favour of Chelsea. Joao Pedro headed in Wesley Fofana’s cross before a diving header from Marc Cucurella brought the equaliser.

There was drama in stoppage time as Enzo Fernandez rattled in the winning goal before Jean-Clair Todibo was sent off for violent conduct in the last act of the game.

The Liam Rosenior touch that’s building a different legacy at Chelsea

21:03 , Miguel Delaney at Stamford Bridge

For Chelsea, that’s how you build a connection, and a team. As for West Ham United, that’s how you get into another tailspin, but it’s still hard to say how they threw that away.

It was probably the substitutions of both managers.

Whatever you put it down to, Chelsea went from getting booed off at half-time when 2-0 down to scoring a vintage stoppage-time winner for a 3-2 victory. The melee at the end, that resulted in a Jean-Clair Todibo red card, only fed into the raucous feeling.

The Liam Rosenior touch that’s building a different legacy at Chelsea

Chelsea forward Joao Pedro, speaking to Sky Sports:

20:03 , Mike Jones

"Sometimes this can happen, but we have a strong squad. We showed we are capable to do it, now we must look forward an continue.

"We knew our power. It's another special day. This team is very young but everyone trusts each other, this is our power. We can improve a lot, but this game is important to show the fans how strong we are."

Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella, speaking to Sky Sports:

20:03 , Mike Jones

"At half-time we speak, in the end its about our mentality and desire we showed in the second half, we are very happy.

"[Liam Rosenior] said it's about us, if we go to press, want the ball, play with confidence, we will get the chances to win.

"We have very good players, a very good team, since the start of the second half we showed a lot of energy and desire. If we play with this energy we are able to win at lot of games."

FT Chelsea 3-2 West Ham

That result means that Chelsea jump back into the top four and sit two points clear of Manchester United in fifth.

The Blues also maintain their winning run ahead of a crunch clash with Arsenal on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

For West Ham, they remain in the relegation zone and are five points away from safety. Nottingham Forest have the chance to increase that to eight tomorrow.

Full-time! Chelsea 3-2 West Ham

19:33 , Mike Jones

101 mins: What a match. What a result.

Chelsea had never won a match when trailing by two goals at half-time.

Liam Rosenior made his substitutions and, much like against Napoli, they turned up for him in the second half.

It’s six wins from seven matches now for the Chelsea boss and this one is right up there with one of their best.

Red card! Chelsea 3-2 West Ham

19:33 , Mike Jones

The game has finally boiled over and a fracas ensues.

A lengthy VAR check sees Todibo dismissed for violent conduct!

Joao Pedro is there and leaps for the ball before nodding it past Areola and getting Chelsea back in this game.

Chelsea 0-2 West Ham

18:45 , Mike Jones

54 mins: West Ham are the dominant side. Every attack seems to bring some form of chance for them and Rosenior’s changes haven’t changed the momentum of the game.

It’s impressive stuff from the Irons, even more so given their league position.

Chelsea 0-2 West Ham

18:42 , Mike Jones

45+5 mins: The Chelsea players look frustrated. The Chelsea fans certainly are.

Chelsea 0-2 West Ham

18:19 , Mike Jones

45+3 mins: Another free kick, won this time by Fernandez.

He then flicks the ball out to Garnacho before receiving it back and putting in the cross.

I’ve no clue why they’ve done that. West Ham clear then ball with ease.

Chelsea 0-2 West Ham

18:16 , Mike Jones

45 mins: Five minutes of added time to play before the end of the first half.

I would be amazed if Garnacho came back out for the second half. He’s had real issues out there, misplaced passes, no defending, losing possession.

There are boos coming from the Chelsea supporters.

It’s about 30-yards out and Fernandez’s shot flies straight into the wall.

18:13 , Mike Jones

42 mins: West Ham come into this match five points off safety.

They are currently cutting that to two with a two-goal cushion over the Blues.

Nottingham Forest are their nearest rivals and they take on Crystal Palace tomorrow. This would be a huge relief for the Hammers should they win this match from here.

Cole Palmer may have something to say about that though. He wins a free kick after a foul from Pablo and there’s another chance to shoot at goal coming up...

Chelsea 0-2 West Ham

18:11 , Mike Jones

He swings in a cross but can’t pick out a teammate and the decent opportunity goes begging.

The Irons have been really threatening down the right side.

Chelsea 0-1 West Ham

18:01 , Mike Jones

30 mins: Half an hour played at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea are still seeking... something.

They’re a little disjointed and lack a spark.

West Ham haven’t had much to do but they’ve defended well, held Chelsea at bay and not committed too many men forward.

Chelsea 0-1 West Ham

17:57 , Mike Jones

27 mins: Gittens hobbles off the pitch and looks like he may have stretched something.

As play resumes, Liam Delap dribbles forward with the ball but his attempt to pick out a teammate results in the Irons intercepting the pass.

Gittens can’t continue and Rosenior hooks him off to replace him with Pedro Neto.

Chelsea 0-1 West Ham

17:54 , Mike Jones

24 mins: Liam Rosenior calls over a few players during a pause in play and issues more instructions.

Bowen has a chat with Nuno Espirito Santo as well but the West Ham seem happy enough.

The break in play is due to Jamie Gittens receiving some medical treatment.

Chelsea 0-1 West Ham

17:52 , Mike Jones

21 mins: Chelsea are trying to get some control of this game but the Irons have kept a solid shape.

A counter-attack for the Blues looks to be in action but Garnacho runs into trouble with the ball and loses possession.

Chelsea 0-1 West Ham

17:49 , Mike Jones

18 mins: Chelsea are awarded a free kick deep in West Ham’s half.

It’s within shooting range and Cole Palmer decides to take it one.

His strike is pretty good but Alphonse Areola has it covered the entire way and clings on to a simple catch.

Chelsea 0-1 West Ham

17:46 , Mike Jones

15 mins: Save!

Bowen and Wan-Bissaka cause problems on the right wing again and it’s the West Ham captain who slips the ball into the penalty area.

Taty Castellanos collects it and drives a fizzing effort towards the near post where Robert Sanchez does well to keep the ball out.

Chelsea 0-1 West Ham

17:44 , Mike Jones

13 mins: Chelsea slowly build out from the back before Enzo Fernandez increases the intensity with a dart through the middle of the pitch.

He looks for Garnacho on the left wing but can’t pick out his teammate and West Ham recover the ball.

Chelsea 0-1 West Ham

17:41 , Mike Jones

10 mins: Chelsea needed to come from behind during the week in order to beat Napoli and they’ll have to do so again today.

Rosenior has plenty of options on his bench but he’ll be hoping his starting XI can get them back into this one.

GOAL! Chelsea 0-1 West Ham (Jarrod Bowen, 7')

17:39 , Mike Jones

Wow!

Aaron Wan-Bissaka steals the ball off Alejandro Garnacho on the right wing and drives forward.

He holds it up and slips a pass to Jarrod Bowen.

Bowen swings in a cross to the far post but no-one can get on the end of the ball.

Robert Sanchez is worried about the central attacker and shuffles over to his left but when the ball bounces he’s too far away from it and it curls into the back of the net!

Chelsea 0-0 West Ham

17:35 , Mike Jones

3 mins: Chelsea start the match on the front foot and work the ball into the West Ham box from the right.

The visitors scramble the ball away but it’s quickly recovered by the Blues.

Kick off! Chelsea 0-0 West Ham

West Ham get the ball rolling at Stamford Bridge. Liam Rosenior looks relaxed despite the sweeping changes he’s made to the Chelsea line-up.

Can West Ham capitalise on that? Let’s find out...

Chelsea vs West Ham

17:25 , Mike Jones

Okay then, let’s do this.

It’s a big game for both of these teams. Liam Rosenior wants to prove, yet again, that he is the man to take Chelsea forward and the best way he can do that is with a strong win against the struggling Hammers.

West Ham, meanwhile, are trying to save themselves. They are stuck in a relegation battle and three points, in a match they shouldn’t win, will be a huge boost to their chances of survival.

The players are about to head onto the pitch at Stamford Bridge, kick off is up next...

Crysencio Summerville has scored in his last two Premier League appearances, more than he had in his first 35 for West Ham (1).

Nuno Espirito Santo says West Ham focussed on themselves

16:30 , Harry Latham-Coyle

Nuno Espirito Santo believes focusing on themselves will be key if West Ham are to escape the relegation mire.

The Hammers briefly closed the gap to 17th-placed Nottingham Forest to two points last weekend after beating Sunderland, but Forest responded a day later by winning at Brentford to leave Nuno's side five adrift of safety going into this weekend.

"We just have to focus on ourselves, and ignore what our opponents are doing," added the Portuguese coach.

"We have to try to compete well, play well, achieve results and keep going. We can't focus on what the other teams are doing, because we can't control that."

Liam Rosenior makes a whole heap of changes from the starting XI that lined-up against Napoli during the week.

The big news is that Cole Palmer starts.

For West Ham, there is just one change from the team that defeated Sunderland. Oliver Scarles is replaced with El Hadji Malick Diouf.

Liam Rosenior provides update on Chelsea transfer plans

16:05 , Harry Latham-Coyle

Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior said the club is ready to move in the final days of the transfer window if the right players are available.

The Blues are in the market for a central defender and have been optimistic that a deal for a long-term target could be reached before the end of January.

A long-term injury to Levi Colwill which is likely to see him miss the whole season has left Chelsea short of options in the position, but it is understood no emergency cover is likely to be sanctioned with the club preferring to stick with their recruitment plans from before the England defender's injury.

The deadline for deals is on Monday night and Rosenior confirmed that sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Lawrence Stewart are actively working on strengthening the team and are ready to back their head coach.

"The guys are working hard to stay on top of things in terms of information on what's out there, who's interested in our players," said Rosenior. "It's about being prepared for any development.

"My job along with the guys is to make the squad in every area as strong as it can possibly be. Certain players come up that you don't expect to come up, and then can strengthen you. Whether that's a striker or a wide player or a defender.

"If we see something, I know the guys are willing to do it. I don't want to bring in players for the sake of bringing in players.

"There's a possibility it could be busy, a possibility it could be quiet."

Cole Palmer hailed as ‘magnificent’ after Chelsea bounce back to reach last 16

15:15 , Harry Latham-Coyle

Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior said he expects to see the best of a “fully fit” Cole Palmer after his two assists against Napoli secured a Champions League last-16 place.

Palmer came off the bench at half-time and set up Joao Pedro for a brace which turned the match at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on its head and gave the Blues a 3-2 victory to bypass February’s play-off round.

It came after reports that the England forward is unsettled in west London and favours a return to Manchester, but this was a timely return to form to help rally the team from 2-1 down in Naples.
