Chelsea vs Man City LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and fan reaction

Chelsea vs Manchester City LIVE

Manchester City dispatched Chelsea with relative ease to heap yet more pressure on Arsenal in the Premier League title race. Goals from Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi and Jeremy Doku decided the affair, securing three points which will help Pep Guardiola’s side on their way to matching the league-leading Gunners’ points tally. There is plenty more work to do, but City are in fine form as they face up to the remainder of the run-in.

Next weekend’s meeting between City and Arsenal may well decide the outcome of this Premier League season, and one side looks far stronger than the other ahead of that crunch, season-defining fixture. Guardiola may not be outwardly confident of catching Mikel Arteta, but he will surely be daring to dream as his side find form at the perfect time.

For Chelsea, though, it is another damning defeat, their third on the spin in this competition. It leaves Liam Rosenior with yet more awkward questions to answer. Catch up with the action as it happened below with Standard Sport’s dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from Dom Smith at Stamford Bridge.

FULL-TIME: Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

18:26 , Arthur Ferridge

The referee puts Chelsea out of their misery as the away end breaks out in song once more.

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

18:25 , Arthur Ferridge

90+8mins: Foden tracks back to tackle Palmer before he has the chance to shoot and cut the deficit.

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

18:24 , Arthur Ferridge

90+6mins: Insult to injury here as Sanchez is penalised for holding onto the ball too long and City get a corner, which they squander.

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

18:18 , Arthur Ferridge

90mins: Chelsea fans are streaming to the exits as the fourth official announces a minimum of eight added minutes.

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

18:18 , Arthur Ferridge

89mins: Acheampong will not have long to impress here, but has just stuck a smart challenge in on Semenyo. With all Chelsea’s defensive injuries, it is a bit of a surprise how underutilised he has been.

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

18:16 , Arthur Ferridge

88mins: Foden’s corner is headed to the feet of Delap by Haaland. The Briton makes an unconvincing clearance which allows Nunes to stick another ball in the mixer, which Haaland again heads wide.

Chelsea make their fifth and final substitution as Josh Acheampong replaces Malo Gusto, who appeared to pick up a small knock a few minutes ago.

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

18:13 , Arthur Ferridge

85mins: Palmer’s free-kick is well hit and has a bit of movement to it, but Donnarumma reads it perfectly. Another smart stop from the Italian, who has been impressive today.

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

18:10 , Arthur Ferridge

82mins: Hard to believe that this is Dario Essugo’s Premier League debut!

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

18:09 , Arthur Ferridge

81mins: Bernardo Silva is withdrawn for City, to be replaced by... Mateo Kovacic! Remember him?

Essugo and Delap then replace Joao Pedro and Caicedo, who are not quite as jovial as Silva as they make their way back to the bench.

Dom Smith at Stamford Bridge

18:07 , Arthur Ferridge

Dario Essugo and Liam Delap are about to come on for Chelsea, who are only getting worse in these final stages.

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

18:07 , Arthur Ferridge

79mins: Semenyo latches onto a loose ball and curls one first time at Sanchez’s goal, but misses high and wide. No reason not to, I suppose, and it wasn’t far away!

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

18:06 , Arthur Ferridge

78mins: Caicedo beats his man and looks to kick on a little attack, but his pass forward for Neto is overhit and into touch. The Blues don’t look terribly likely here.

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

18:04 , Arthur Ferridge

76mins: Khusanov has a crack from about 40 yards and has Sanchez rather worried, buthe just misses the target.

Two more City changes come through as Doku and Cherki are hooked in favour of Savinho and Foden.

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

18:03 , Arthur Ferridge

75mins: Barring something spectacular, Chelsea are on course for a third consecutive Premier League defeat. The previous two came against Everton and Newcastle.

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

18:01 , Arthur Ferridge

74mins: Rodri seems fit to continue.

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

18:00 , Arthur Ferridge

72mins: Rodri is down injured now after an awkward tackle from Lavia. He doesn’t look comfortable at all.

Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City

17:59 , Arthur Ferridge

71mins: Cucurella’s shot from the edge of the area is narrowly wide, but Donnarumma likely had that covered anyway.

GOAL! Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City | Doku '68

17:57 , Arthur Ferridge

City are rampaging now - Doku adds a third. He tackles Caicedo with ease, takes one touch to get into the area and finishes well past Sanchez. Another damaging defeat on the cards for Liam Rosenior now.

Chelsea 0-2 Manchester City

17:55 , Arthur Ferridge

68mins: And here come the Chelsea changes. Romeo Lavia and Alejandro Garnacho replace Andrey Santos and Estevao.

Chelsea 0-2 Manchester City

17:54 , Arthur Ferridge

67mins: Hato gets a header off from the resultant corner but Donnarumma rises to meet it.

Chelsea 0-2 Manchester City

17:54 , Arthur Ferridge

66mins: Palmer gets a first-time shot away from Cucurella’s low cross, but Guehi reads him like a book and dives in to block it.

Chelsea 0-2 Manchester City

17:53 , Arthur Ferridge

65mins: Seems Alejandro Garnacho and Romeo Lavia are both set to come off the bench for Chelsea.

Chelsea 0-2 Manchester City

17:50 , Arthur Ferridge

63mins: Seems to be a hamstring problem for O’Reilly. What a cruel blow that is.

Chelsea 0-2 Manchester City

17:50 , Arthur Ferridge

62mins: O’Reilly has gone down off the ball here. That’ll be a big worry for Guardiola.

Chelsea 0-2 Manchester City

17:48 , Arthur Ferridge

60mins: Needless to say, this scoreline makes grim reading for Arsenal fans, but that will be scant consolation for those being drizzled on in the stands at Stamford Bridge. This may be a case of damage limitation from here on out.

Dom Smith at Stamford Bridge

17:47 , Arthur Ferridge

A composed finish from Guehi is a calamity for Chelsea who are 2-0 down in an instant and facing defeat now unless something drastic changes - and changes fast. That's what City can do to you.

GOAL! Chelsea 0-2 Manchester City | Guehi '57

17:45 , Arthur Ferridge

And it is two! Cherki dances across the edge of the box and breaks three or four tackles before playing Guehi into space. It is a striker’s finish from the centre-back, who drives his shot low past Sanchez.

Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

17:44 , Arthur Ferridge

56mins: Nunes is played in behind by Cherki and he puts a great cross in for Haaland, but Fofana intercedes to deny the Norwegian a shooting chance.

Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

17:42 , Arthur Ferridge

And Cucurella has been booked for dissent.

Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

17:42 , Arthur Ferridge

54mins: That should have been two! Semenyo is in space and beats Cucurella, but the Spaniard recovers just in time to send his shot looping behind for a corner.

Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City

17:41 , Arthur Ferridge

53mins: Guardiola must have delivered an absolute blinder of a half-time team talk there.

Dom Smith at Stamford Bridge

17:40 , Arthur Ferridge

Well Chelsea have not come out for the second half with quite as much focus as they finished the first. And O'Reilly, my bet for young player of the season, puts City ahead. It's a cruel one for Chelsea. And Arsenal won't be too fond of it, either.

GOAL! Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City | O'Reilly '51

17:38 , Arthur Ferridge

The League Cup final hero puts City in front at Stamford Bridge! Cherki whips a cross in and the left-back heads home deftly.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

17:36 , Arthur Ferridge

48mins: Appalling delivery from Cherki falls to Palmer at the near post, but he inexplicably puts it behind for a second corner. This one goes short and Doku dribbles at Palmer before going down in the box. The away end want a penalty, but it seems the Belgian slipped rather than being forced to ground.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

17:35 , Arthur Ferridge

47mins: Cherki dances into the box and sends a shot across the face of goal. It goes behind for a corner after a deflection.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

17:35 , Arthur Ferridge

46mins: City really need to get Haaland more involved in this second half. His 10 touches before the break was the worst tally of any player on the pitch.

And he has already loosed a shot in this half, with Hato sliding in heroically to deny him a much-needed goal.

2ND HALF: Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

17:33 , Arthur Ferridge

Back underway! No half-time changes.

Liam Rosenior gives a half-time interview

17:33 , Arthur Ferridge

It has been a very tight half between two good teams. When we have had chances to play we have created chances so we just need to continue. They have threats all over the pitch. So far, Estevao Malo and Andrey have done very well on that side.

HALF-TIME: Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

17:17 , Arthur Ferridge

Neto swings a great cross in and it meets the head of Estevao, but the Brazilian cannot keep his effort down. That takes us to the break.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

17:17 , Arthur Ferridge

45+2mins: One last free-kick for Chelsea to end the half.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

17:16 , Arthur Ferridge

45+1mins: Silva’s inswinging corner is straight out for a goal kick.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

17:15 , Arthur Ferridge

45mins: Semenyo dances in off the right flank and gets a smart shot away, but it is wide via a deflection off Andrey Santos. Corner for City as we head into a solitary added minute.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

17:13 , Arthur Ferridge

43mins: Santos teases a cross into the box, which Donnarumma claims all too easily. Neither side looking particularly likely to score an opener before half-time here.

Dom Smith at Stamford Bridge

17:11 , Arthur Ferridge

A bit of a lull in the game in the last 10 minutes. Plenty of free-kicks awarded - most of them to City, to the home fans' dismay. Five minutes to the interval and you sense the first goal could be very significant here.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

17:09 , Arthur Ferridge

39mins: O’Reilly picks Estevao’s pocket and drives into the box, squaring to Cherki whose shot is denied scruffily by Sanchez.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

17:08 , Arthur Ferridge

36mins: Neto breaks away on the counter after intercepting a Semenyo pass but is tripped by the Ghanaian before he can go anywhere dangerous. The City man is booked.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

17:04 , Arthur Ferridge

34mins: How has that stayed out! O’Reilly’s cross is fired goalwards by Silva but Sanchez makes a great save and manages to gather the ball before Haaland can poke the rebound home. Great goalkeeping.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

17:03 , Arthur Ferridge

34mins: Joao Pedro and Donnarumma are in a footrace after a loose ball which would surely have led to the opener had the Brazilian got there first, but it is the City keeper who makes the crucial first touch.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

17:01 , Arthur Ferridge

30mins: Cucurella’s cross has Donnarumma worried. He rises to punch clear, but only as far as O’Reilly, whose follow-up is just as awkward and demands another intervention from the Italian. The play is dead and his blushes are spared, though, as a Chelsea player is deemed to have strayed offside.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:59 , Arthur Ferridge

29mins: Chance for Chelsea! Gusto whips a smart cross in for Pedro and he seems to get a slight touch on it, but not quite enough to direct it goalwards.

Dom Smith at Stamford Bridge

16:58 , Arthur Ferridge

While Chelsea are coping well with the challenge, what I would say is they've been second to a lot of 50-50s so far. Need to impose themselves more, physically.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:56 , Arthur Ferridge

26mins: Estevao is looking quite frustrated now as he is flagged offside. Tough afternoon for the Brazilian, who has really struggled to get going here.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:55 , Arthur Ferridge

25mins: Cherki looks to whip one into the box, but overhits it badly and can only apologise as it sails into touch.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:51 , Arthur Ferridge

21mins: Doku cuts in off the flank and sees a shot blocked, before Bernardo’s rebound befalls the same fate.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:50 , Arthur Ferridge

20mins: City are yet to have a shot despite enjoying the vast majority of possession - more than 60 per cent so far.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:49 , Arthur Ferridge

19mins: City lose the ball in Chelsea’s third and the Blues counter apace through Neto. He beats Nunes and drops Rodri before shooting from a tight angle, but Donnarumma gets down quickly to deny him.

Dom Smith at Stamford Bridge

16:47 , Arthur Ferridge

A major reprieve for City and mightily unlucky for Chelsea. Cucurella was just offside, but it was a lovely move that ended with the ball in the net. A lively game stays goalless.

NO GOAL! Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:46 , Arthur Ferridge

16mins: Cucurella has the ball in the back of the net after Joao Pedro’s superb build-up - but heartbreak! The flag is up!

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:44 , Arthur Ferridge

14mins: City enjoy a spell in possession but they look remarkably sloppy. Struggling to do anything of note with their territory.

Dom Smith at Stamford Bridge

16:43 , Arthur Ferridge

Tad harsh, but that's another silly and needless Estevao yellow card. He's got to cut those out.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:42 , Arthur Ferridge

12mins: Estevao kicks the ball away after conceding a foul, and is booked for it. Silly.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:41 , Arthur Ferridge

11mins: Neto takes the free-kick and it is straight out for a goal-kick. Wasteful from Chelsea.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:41 , Arthur Ferridge

10mins: Palmer is pulled back from Rodri as he breaks at goal. The Chelsea forward is furious that the offender has got away without a booking for what was blatantly a cynical foul. Free-kick for the Blues, dead centre and about 30 yards out.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:40 , Arthur Ferridge

10mins: Caicedo lofts a pass into the area in search of the onrushing Malo Gusto, but it is cut out again by Khusanov.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:39 , Arthur Ferridge

9mins: A loose City pass is cut out and Neto plays Pedro in behind, but Khusanov tracks him well and blocks the Brazilian’s shot for a corner. Neto takes but fails to beat the first man, in this case Doku.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:38 , Arthur Ferridge

8mins: Scrappy stuff from Chelsea in the early stages here. Hato puts a pass between the lines into the feet of Joao Pedro, who looks to knock it into space for Cucurella, but the Spaniard decides not to chase the loose ball.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:37 , Arthur Ferridge

7mins: Enzo Fernandez is sat between the injured Levi Colwill and Filip Jorgensen on the Chelsea bench. All three are stony-faced and unspeaking.

Dom Smith at Stamford Bridge

16:36 , Arthur Ferridge

Half-chance, perhaps, as Palmer escapes past the City defence and fires into the side-netting from a tight angle. Bright start from City is met by a decent spell from the hosts.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:36 , Arthur Ferridge

6mins: Chelsea break through Palmer but his wayward through-ball for Neto gives City time to track back. The Portuguese works the ball back to his No10, and he shoots into the side netting.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:35 , Arthur Ferridge

5mins: Guehi’s cross-field ball finds Cherki and he plays Rodri in behind. The Spaniard knocks a cross back into the arms of his countryman Robert Sanchez, whose quick ball forward bobbles all the way to his opposite number, Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:34 , Arthur Ferridge

4mins: Doku nods a cross back into the box, but Fofana is there to clear it away. City come again - tough start for Chelsea here.

Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:33 , Arthur Ferridge

2mins: A long ball goes forward to Haaland, and it takes three Chelsea players to dispossess him. Fofana could barely hold onto him before reinforcements arrived - he could be in for a long afternoon.

City win possession back and win a first corner of the match.

KICK-OFF! Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City

16:30 , Arthur Ferridge

We’re off! Chelsea are in their traditional royal blue, with City in that odd grey third kit with fluoro-green trim and a raindrop graphic plastered across it. Each to their own, eh?

Here come the players

16:26 , Arthur Ferridge

The Liquidator is playing as the teams take to the pitch at Stamford Bridge. Kick-off up next!

Team news reminder

16:20 , Arthur Ferridge

With ten minutes left before kick-off, here’s a reminder of today’s teams.

Chelsea XI: Sanchez; Gusto, Fofana, Hato, Cucurella; Caicedo, Santos; Estevao, Palmer, Neto; Joao Pedro

Man City XI: Donnarumma; Nunes, Khusanov, Guehi, O’Reilly, Rodri, Silva, Semenyo, Cherki, Doku, Haaland

Dom Smith at Stamford Bridge

16:18 , Arthur Ferridge

A big day for Chelsea's defence, I think. Important that the slightly less experienced members of their backline, such as Jorrel Hato, step up. Otherwise, Chelsea's 12-game run without victory over Manchester City will only extend.

Title implications

16:15 , Arthur Ferridge

After Arsenal were well beaten by Bournemouth yesterday afternoon, Manchester City have the chance to close in on the Premier League leaders.

They presently trail the Gunners by nine points, but have two games in hand.

Should City win both those games in hand and beat Arsenal when they meet next weekend, and the two sides will go level on points.

They can kick on in that quest with a win over Chelsea today.

When did Chelsea last beat Man City?

16:09 , Arthur Ferridge

Many moons ago.

Chelsea’s last victory over City was a long time ago - nearly five years - but it was at least memorable: the 2020/21 Champions League final in Porto.

That win gave Chelsea their second European title, with Kai Havertz scoring the only goal, but the Blues are winless against Pep Guardiola’s side in 12 meetings since.

Tottenham beaten at Sunderland!

16:02 , Arthur Ferridge

Roberto De Zerbi loses his first match in charge of Tottenham and will end the weekend in the relegation zone!

But were there any encouraging signs? Keep an eye on Standard Sport in the coming hours for analysis and reaction from the Stadium of Light!

Can Cole Palmer haunt his former club?

15:54 , Arthur Ferridge

Cole Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023, but how has he fared in previous matches against his former club?

Short answer: not well.

He is yet to come out on top against City in six attempts, which have yielded three draws and three losses.

In terms of his own performances, his only goal against City came in a 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge back in November 2023.

Man City team news

15:46 , Arthur Ferridge

Chelsea will have their work cut out for them this afternoon, though, with Pep Guardiola also naming a very strong XI.

That back four of Nunes, Khusanov, Guehi and O’Reilly will be very challenging for the Blues to break down, while the front four will give Jorrel Hato and Wesley Fofana a very tough afternoon.

Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick last time out, but beforehand he had endured a run of one goal in seven matches.

Chelsea team news

15:38 , Arthur Ferridge

It is a strong team for Liam Rosenior.

Jorrel Hato starts again in defence - Rosenior has seemed very impressed by the former Ajax man since Trevoh Chalobah’s injury.

Enzo Fernandez remains absent after seeming to put himself in the shop window during the March international break.

And the Chelsea gaffer has gone for what appears to be his first-choice front-four, consisting of Cole Palmer, Estevao, and Pedro Neto in behind Joao Pedro.

Guardiola in Man City title warning

14:55 , Giuseppe Muro

Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City's crunch clash with Arsenal next week will be irrelevant if they fail to beat Chelsea.

City's title fate is back in their own hands after the Premier League-leading Gunners suffered a shock loss to Bournemouth on Saturday.

Mikel Arteta's side still hold a nine-point advantage, but with two games in hand and an opportunity to take points off Arsenal themselves, City do have a route to pull level.

Even so, the first of those additional games is a testing trip to Chelsea and Guardiola knows they must make it count.

The City manager said: "Talking about Arsenal, if you don't win at Stamford Bridge - that's not an easy place to go - maybe we don't need to make the press conference before Arsenal because it'll be over.

"Everybody knows it. You know it, I know it, the players know it, everybody knows it. England knows it."

Rosenior confident Chelsea will get back on track

14:39 , Giuseppe Muro

Liam Rosenior is confident Chelsea can put their Champions League push back on track this afternoon.

Chelsea have endured a torrid two months, registering just five Premier League points from six games and crashing out of Europe following an emphatic 8-2 aggregate defeat to Paris Saint Germain.

The Blues have not beaten City since a 1-0 victory in the 2021 Champions League final.

Rosenior insists the club's 12-match winless run in the fixture is irrelevant and will not change his approach as his team attempt to cut down on costly errors.

"Of course we can (beat City), we're a very good team," he said. "We've gone through a difficult run, even though in that run we were punished for mistakes.

"There were good moments, so when I actually analyse the games we've had we've caused every team we've played against problems but haven't had the results for that.

"We need to make sure that we keep the back door shut. We need to not switch off, we need to not make mistakes because Manchester City will punish you.

"I still want us to go out and play our game."

Chelsea have lost nine and drawn three of their last 12 meetings with City.

"That's in the past," said Rosenior. "The record that's happened before this game has no relevance on the game.

"We have to focus on what's going to be a really difficult game."

Prediction

14:31 , Giuseppe Muro

It could be another tough afternoon for Chelsea, with City looking like they are building momentum at the perfect time.

Chelsea have not lost three in a row in the Premier League in almost three years, but have shown little to suggest they can reverse that run against the most impressive team in the country.

Chelsea 0-2 Man City

Manchester City team news

14:23 , Giuseppe Muro

Manchester City will again be without Ruben Dias.

The centre-back is not ready to return after missing both the Carabao Cup final win over Arsenal and last weekend’s FA Cup demolition of Liverpool.

Gianluigi Donnarumma will be back in goal after deputy James Trafford’s cup exploits against both Arsenal and Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola will surely be tempted to stick with the same attack that thrashed Liverpool thanks largely to a hat-trick from Erling Haaland, who was well supported by the trio of Antoine Semenyo, Rayan Cherki and Jeremy Doku.

Chelsea team news

14:15 , Giuseppe Muro

Chelsea will again be without Enzo Fernandez.

The midfielder remains unavailable after being handed a two-match internal ban by the club last week, despite apologising for recent comments regarding his future.

Marc Cucurella escaped punishment for comments he made criticising the club and is expected to come back into the side after he was on the bench against Port Vale in the FA Cup.

Fernandez’s absence comes at a time when Rosenior is already facing a number of injury issues.

Levi Colwill, Trevoh Chalobah and Reece James are not expected back despite all being back on the grass, while Jamie Gittens remains on the sidelines after suffering another hamstring injury in training.
