Chelsea vs Leicester City player ratings: Reece James shows magic touch, Marcos Alonso confounds

He was left pretty much untroubled in the Chelsea net and could do nothing to stop James Maddison's strike. Came to claim the ball bravely and well in the latter stages of the match. 6.

Trevoh Chalobah

Saw a long-range effort saved very well by Kasper Schmeichel in the early stages of the game, and it matches up well against Jamie Vardy's pace over the 90 minutes. Very solid performance. 7.

Thiago Silva

The Brazilian displayed his usual standards on and off the ball and has become the pillar of consistency for the Blues. Probably primed to be named player of the season. 7.

Antonio Rudiger

A solid outing from the defender who would have been unhappy that the deflection from him set up Maddison's strike. The Germany international may have been fortunate to stay on the pitch when both feet left the ground in a challenge on Wesley Fofana. 6.

Reece James

Provided a delightful cross for Marcos Alonso to finish off on an evening where he had quite the tussle with Luke Thomas. Found himself sent further up the pitch when Cesar Azpilicueta replaced Christian Pulisic and seemed to enjoy the freedom to traverse the pitch. 7.

N'Golo Kante

Showed a real desire to drive Chelsea forward from the centre of the pitch and helped play tick over for the Blues. Harshly handed a yellow card at the start of the second half but continued to disrupt play and find gaps well. 7.

Jorginho

A quiet evening at Stamford Bridge for the midfielder as Maddison shadowed many of his movements when the Blues were in possession. 6.

Marcos Alonso

Failed to track the run of Timothy Castagne though it was difficult to tell whether it was a lack of focus or effort in the build-up to Maddison's goal. Produced a fine strike to level things up and pushed high throughout the rest of the night as Chelsea looked for a winner. 6.

Hakim Ziyech

He wasted little time showing his attacking intent with a shot from range in the opening five minutes and continued to show that he could find a pass and had an element of trickery. Perhaps not probing enough over the course of the 90 minutes, however. 6.

Romelu Lukaku

Struggled to have a sustained impact for much of the match and picked up a yellow card for preventing Maddison from breaking forward in the second half. Had a headed opportunity in the 61st minute after a good cross from Ziyech but could only direct it wide. Did serve a chance to Pulisic on a plate, but the 23-year-old could not convert. 5.

Christian Pulisic

The American will still be wondering how he did not score from Lukaku's pass in an action that capped off a difficult match. Struggled to stand out when he was on the pitch. 5.

Substitutes:

Cesar Azpulicueta - Steady performance in the time he was on the pitch. 6.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek - A really proactive appearance from the midfielder who looked to get on the ball and drive forward when the opportunity arose. 6.

Kai Havertz - Limited time on the pitch but could only strike the air when put through on goal by Ziyech. 5.
