Chelsea vs Hull LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and fan reaction

LIVE: Chelsea vs Hull - (Getty)

Chelsea vs Hull LIVE!

Chelsea endured a disappointing return to Premier League action, dropping points at home to newly-promoted Hull City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon. Despite taking an early lead once again through Morgan Rogers, the Blues needed a Joao Pedro goal just after the hour mark and a brilliant Emi Martinez save late on to avoid a second straight Premier League defeat.

Xabi Alonso's side appeared to be cruising until another defensive implosion saw them give up command of the game and gift two goals to Hull’s Mohamed Belloumi. The first came when Malo Gusto and Jorrel Hato each failed to take control of what should have been a simple mop-up job, allowing the Algerian winger to hammer in his first Premier League goal. Emiliano Martinez then failed to deal with a corner and Belloumi drilled in via a deflection to put Sergej Jakirovic’s side on course for another upset at half-time.

Hull, meanwhile, have continued their strong start upon returning to the top flight, picking up eight points from a possible 12. This result may go a long way towards securing their most important objective of the campaign - avoiding relegation. Follow Chelsea vs Hull back below with Standard Sport's dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from Arthur Ferridge.

Chelsea player ratings

17:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Emi Martinez 4

Not much he could have done to deny either of Hull’s first-half goals, but unconvincing defending corners and dropped a catchable long-shot in the second half. Denied Hull a winner with a vital late stop.

Malo Gusto 3

His slack defending allowed the cross for Belloumi’s opener. Unable to cope with Stroud and Giles’ physicality and ineffective going forward.

Wesley Fofana 5

Caught in no man’s land for Belloumi’s second. Forward-thinking on the ball but not many of his attempted line-breaking passes reached the intended destination.

Chelsea 1-2 Hull

Chelsea 1-2 Hull

Joao Pedro was the first man back to his feet following that clash of heads and is fine to continue, but Danny Welbeck is now going through a reasonably intense warmup.

Chelsea 1-2 Hull

Chelsea 1-2 Hull

16:17 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Chelsea 1-2 Hull

15:39 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arthur Ferridge at Stamford Bridge

15:36 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Chelsea's capitulation complete, Hull en route to another giant slaying. They were fortunate to see Coyle's shot deflected behind for a corner, but their defending from said corner was far from good enough.

Ajayi rattles the crossbar with a bullet header before Belloumi buries the rebound, via a further two deflections.

It was a dramatic comeback to beat Leeds in midweek, now Chelsea find themselves requiring another rescue mission.

GOAL! Chelsea 1-2 Hull | Mohamed Belloumi ‘34

15:36 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

34 min: HULL LEAD!

Mohamed Belloumi with his second goal of the game. Ajayi’s header cannons back off the crossbar and the Algeria international’s effort takes a deflection and hits the back of the net.

What a turnaround!

Chelsea 1-1 Hull

15:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

33 min: CHANCE!

Hull denied a second goal by a finger-tip save from Martinez to deny Coyle after he had been teed up superbly by Belloumi.

Chelsea 1-1 Hull

32 min: Hull’s tails are up since that equaliser. They seem to be winning every second ball.

Arthur Ferridge at Stamford Bridge

15:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

And directly from the resultant free kick, Hull are back level.

An awkward bounce takes it over Hato and Belloumi hits a thunderous finish.

All square.

GOAL! Chelsea 1-1 Hull | Mohamed Belloumi ‘28

15:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

28 min: HULL EQUALISE!

Belloumi stuns Stamford Bridge.

Arthur Ferridge at Stamford Bridge

15:28 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

A needless moment of aggro from Colwill there as he just steps into the path of Tzolakis after a corner.

The Hull 'keeper goes down and requires treatment. Colwill gets away scot-free.

Chelsea 1-0 Hull

15:28 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

26 min: Hato glances a corner on at the near post but Tzolakis is alert and makes the save at the second attempt after spilling the ball in front of Joao Pedro.

The Hull keeper attempts to get his side going on the counter but is blocked off by Colwill and now requires treatment.

Chelsea 1-0 Hull

15:26 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

24 min: Palmer looks to slide in Rogers but Mendy blocks off the Chelsea goalscorer and Tzolakis rushes off his line to smother the ball.

Arthur Ferridge at Stamford Bridge

15:24 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

That's twice Chelsea have tried that cheeky corner routine, with Reece James playing it low along the floor to Palmer at the front post.

This time he flicks it on into the corridor of uncertainty, but there is nobody there to finish it.

Third time lucky, maybe?

Chelsea 1-0 Hull

15:24 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

22 min: CHANCE!

Better from Tzolakis as he parries Neto’s shot behind for a corner. On second thoughts, the Hull keeper could have caught the ball.

Chelsea 1-0 Hull

15:21 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

19 min: Belloumi tries to fizz a pass into McBurnie but misses the ball completely and the Hull attack comes to a halt.

Chelsea 1-0 Hull

15:19 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

17 min: First yellow card of the game is shown to McBurnie as he slides in on Palmer from behind. Hull striker has a long time to watch his step now.

Pedro Neto chips the free-kick in towards Joao Pedro but gets too much power on his cross and the ball goes out of play.

Chelsea 1-0 Hull

15:17 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

16 min: Hull are yet to get going from an attacking perspective. After conceding for the first time in the Premier League this season, they now need to avoid two goalless games if they’re to maintain their unbeaten start.

Chelsea 1-0 Hull

15:14 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

12 min: Egan with a crucial stretch to get to the ball before Joao Pedro as Gusto looked to present the Chelsea striker with a simple tap-in. Blues do have a corner which comes to nothing.

Arthur Ferridge at Stamford Bridge

15:13 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

A very fluid setup from Chelsea, this, but I believe it is a back four with Hato and Gusto as full-backs, and Pedro Neto trading in his usual wing-back role to play as an out-and-out winger.

Chelsea 1-0 Hull

15:12 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

10 min: Not the ideal start for Hull goalkeeper, Tzolakis this afternoon. He’s largely at fault for the goal and has had two moments of nervous when the ball has been played back to him.

Arthur Ferridge at Stamford Bridge

15:10 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

For all the talk this week of Chelsea needing to dominate this match in possession, their first goal has come in the usual fashion - Rogers finishing sharply from a counter-attack.

It is by far Chelsea's most threatening moment of the half so far, and they have indeed seen far more of the ball than Hull.

GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Hull | Morgan Rogers ‘7

15:08 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

7 min: CHELSEA LEAD!

Another early goal for Chelsea and it’s Morgan Rogers with a low strike past Tzolakis.

Chelsea 0-0 Hull

15:03 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

2 min: Chelsea have scored inside the opening five minutes in each of their Premier League games this season. Can they repeat the trick here?

Chelsea have their 'own Benzema' after £60m transfer: 'He's complete'

14:56 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Xabi Alonso has paid Joao Pedro the ultimate compliment, comparing the Chelsea striker to Real Madrid legend Karim Benzema.

Joao Pedro was a shining light for Chelsea in an otherwise disappointing 2025-26 campaign, scoring 20 goals across all competitions after joining from Brighton in a deal worth £60million.

This season, the Brazilian has made a flying start as he was named the Premier League Player of the Month for the first time in his career after scoring and assisting in wins over Fulham and Brighton.

While Joao Pedro is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the Premier League, Alonso has gone one step further by comparing him to Benzema - one of the greatest forwards of all time.

Lamine Camara reacts to failed £47m summer transfer

14:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Chelsea have been handed fresh hope over reviving a deal for Lamine Camara, with the Monaco midfielder not closing the door on a move to the Premier League one day.

As reported by Standard Sport during the summer transfer window, Chelsea had identified the Senegal international as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, who left to join Manchester City for £125million on Deadline Day.

In fact, it's understood that an agreement had been reached between the Blues and Monaco for £47m and that Camara was expected to sign a six-year contract with the option to extend by a further 12 months.

However, Monaco pulled the plug at the last minute after and extraordinary U-turn, thus leaving Chelsea short of midfield options after the transfer window had closed.

Joao Pedro recalled

14:48 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Chelsea striker Joao Pedro has been handed a recall to the Brazil squad after his shock World Cup snub, but there is no place for Matheus Cunha in an apparent boost to Manchester United.

Joao Pedro was arguably the biggest omission made by Selecao head coach Carlo Ancelotti for the tournament in North America earlier this summer, where his side were stunned by Erling Haaland and Norway in the last 16.

Joao Pedro’s return was the biggest headline as Ancelotti named a 26-man squad for those matches, with the 24-year-old having started the new season well and scored twice already as part of a potent Chelsea attack alongside Cole Palmer and club-record signing Morgan Rogers.

Xabi Alonso reveals advice to Marco Palestra amid injury frustration

14:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Xabi Alonso has told Marco Palestra to be patient as he closes in on a return from the quad injury which has delayed his competitive debut.

Palestra signed for Chelsea from Atalanta this summer and impressed in pre-season, both in the tour of south-east Asia and on return to west London, but suffered an injury in training ahead of the club’s Premier League opener away at Fulham.

Little was known of the nature of Palestra’s injury, but Alonso has now confirmed he is suffering from a quad problem and he hopes the Italian will be able to feature before the coming international break.

A couple of interesting adjustments from Xabi Alonso here as Maxence Lacroix drops out of the side and Levi Colwill is reinstated.

It looks to be another classic 3-4-2-1 for the Blues, with that formidable front three of Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers out to do some damage.

There has been plenty of talk about Estevao's role in the squad this week and he, perhaps unsurprisingly, is left on the bench again here. Let's see if he has a super-sub showing in the locker.

Chelsea star makes transfer decision amid exit rumours

13:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Pedro Neto has signed a new long-term contract at Chelsea that will keep him at the club until 2032.

The Portuguese had been the subject of transfer interest during the summer window, with Standard Sport previously reporting that Manchester City and Tottenham were interested in the winger, but ultimately, he stayed put at Stamford Bridge.

The former Wolves man has become a first-team regular under new manager Xabi Alonso, operating in an unfamiliar right wing-back role, where he has flourished.

The 26-year-old has now committed his future to the club, penning a new six-year deal to keep him in west London for the long haul.

Xabi Alonso defends Chelsea tactics but hints at changes

13:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Xabi Alonso insists he is unconcerned about Chelsea’s lack of possession in the early days of the Premier League season, but admits he would like his side to have more control over their matches.

The Blues have come through their first three league matches of the campaign with a respectable six points, but have averaged just 36 per cent possession across those ties.

Their efficiency on the ball, though, cannot be faulted. Their paltry possession has been converted into eight goals from 48 shots.

Alonso is adamant Chelsea’s chance creation is sufficient to outweigh their minimal time on the ball, though he conceded having more possession would help develop his side’s identity.

Predicted Chelsea XI

13:20 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Levi Colwill went straight down the tunnel in midweek after his substitution, but Xabi Alonso assured that the defender was not injured after he had missed the defeat at Arsenal following a slight knock in training.

The 23-year-old should come back in here, alongside Maxence Lacroix, and it is a toss-up on whether Josh Acheampong has done enough to displace Wesley Fofana for the right-sided centre-back role.

Reece James should start in the engine room, and Romeo Lavia should be reinstalled in Caicedo’s absence, after the failed experiment of a midfield trio that saw Reggie Watson handed a debut as a sole pivot, and Malo Gusto and Valentin Barco ahead of him as No8s.

Predicted Chelsea XI (3-4-2-1): Martinez; Fofana, Lacroix, Colwill; Neto, James, Lavia, Hato; Palmer, Rogers; Joao Pedro.
