Chelsea vs Arsenal LIVE: Premier League result, final score and reaction

Stamford Bridge, home of Chelsea Football Club - (The FA via Getty Images)

Follow live coverage as Chelsea face Arsenal today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Chelsea FC 1 - 1 Arsenal FC

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:34

The full-time whistle blows and Chelsea and Arsenal are forced to share the spoils after a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge. After a low-key first half that saw Havertz have a goal disallowed, Martinelli put the Gunners into the lead with an hour on the clock as he beat Sanchez from a tight angle. Chelsea responded though, with Neto lashing home from range after passive defending from Arsenal. It was the visitors who nearly won it late on, with Trossard twice missing the target when he really should have scored, and Arteta's men are forced to settle for a point, one that leaves them in fourth, level on points with Chelsea in third and nine points behind leaders Liverpool. Chelsea will feel they could have won that game, creating 1.28 xG to Arsenal's 0.99. After the international break, Chelsea will travel to take on Leicester City while Arsenal will host Nottingham Forest. That's all we have for you from Stamford Bridge, so thanks for your company and goodbye!

Chelsea vs Arsenal

FULL-TIME: CHELSEA 1-1 ARSENAL

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:28

SOMEBODY PUT IT IN THE NET!!! Arsenal work the ball really nicely down the left, and Saliba is there to slide the ball across the face of goal. Arsenal players are queueing up in the middle, but Trossard can only skew an effort wide of the target with Havertz waiting to tap home behind him. Quite incredible that the ball hasn't found its way into the back of the net there!

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:25

It's livened up in the second half, but ultimately both head coaches will think their sides should have done more to try and win this London derby.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:23

It's Arsenal who are doing the pressing right now to try and score what could be a massive goal come the end of the campaign.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:21

The fourth official puts up the board and indicates there will be five minutes of additional time for the two teams to try and find a winner.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:20

HOW HAS THAT NOT GONE IN!?!?!? Odegaard gets down the right before pulling the ball back for Merino. The Spaniard flicks goalwards, and though he is kept out by Sanchez, the ball finds its way to Trossard. The substitute looks like he will surely score, but instead smashes high over the crossbar from close range. What a chance that was for the Gunners to snatch the three points!

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:19

Substitution Nicolas Jackson Christopher Alan Nkunku

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:17

Five minutes remaining at Stamford Bridge, and the game remains finely poised. The two teams could both do with a win for their respective aims come the end of the season.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:15

The ball loops up in the Arsenal box, but Jackson can only send a tame header bouncing into the waiting hands of Raya.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:13

James takes the captain's armband off Caicedo as he replaces Gusto at right-back.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:11

Saka was left on the turf following that Cucurella tackle, and he is forced to make way for Jesus.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:10

Yellow Card Marc Cucurella Saseta

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:09

That was Neto's first Premier League goal for Chelsea, scoring from outside the box in the competition for the first time since his very first such goal on New Year's Day 2020 for Wolves against Watford.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:07

Jackson latches onto a long ball over the top before slotting home, but he is very clearly offside and the goal is ruled out. Jackson knew he was off, looking over to the linesman before racing onto the ball and placing into the back of the net.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:05

This time Merino does get to a cross, and he manages to nod a deft header into the path of Havertz. However, Sanchez is alert to collect before the forward can poke home.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:04

Saka arrows a ball into the danger area, but the substitute Merino is just on his heels a little and can't reach it.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:02

Now it's Arteta's turn to respond. He brings on Merino for Rice.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

18:02

Substitution Gabriel Teodoro Martinelli Silva Leandro Trossard

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:58

A persistent run from Timber sees him beat a couple of Chelsea players before working the space to shoot, though his effort bounces a couple of yards wide of the left post.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:56

An inswinging corner from Saka is awkward for Sanchez, who has to tip it away from danger. Arsenal's tails are up, and Chelsea need a response.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:54

Martinelli has scored his first Premier League goal against Chelsea since January 2020, ending a run of seven league appearances without netting against them in the competition.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:51

Assist Martin Ødegaard

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:50

Goal Gabriel Teodoro Martinelli Silva

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:50

Caicedo sends Timber flying off the pitch before Havertz returns to the field. It's been a niggly game, and the two head coaches will want their players to focus on the football rather than the flare-ups that have been seen multiple times during this contest.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:47

Yellow Card Kai Lukas Havertz

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:47

The hosts have been the livelier since the restart, and the home crowd is responding with their encouragement. This would be a huge win foe Chelsea and their hopes of getting into the top four.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:44

CHANCE! Madueke swings a corner towards the back post, where Colwill is tangling with Saliba. The Chelsea man does manage to get to the ball, but his flailing effort flies over the crossbar. That's a let-off for Saliba and Arsenal.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:42

Arsenal have failed to score in the first half in five of their last six Premier League games against Chelsea, and they've not exactly come out firing since the interval here either. It's all been pretty lacklustre from both sides.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:39

Arsenal have only gone on to win two of their last 14 Premier League games against Chelsea that have been level at half-time, although both of those have been under Arteta in the most recent two (4-2 and 1-0 in 2022).

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:36

Chelsea get the ball rolling again for the second period.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:23

It's been a pretty even game, with Chelsea accumulating 0.48 xG (expected goals) to Arsenal's 0.49. The attacking quality of the likes of Saka and Palmer hasn't yet been fully shown, and Maresca and Arteta will be demanding more from their key men in the second half.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:21

The half-time whistle blows with the scoreline 0-0 between Chelsea and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. It's not been a classic, though Palmer went close with a fierce drive early on before Gusto should have given Chelsea the lead with a close-range header. Arsenal nearly got their noses in front themselves through Martinelli, but Sanchez was equal to the winger's effort. Havertz thought he had made it 1-0 with 32 minutes played, though he was ruled to be offside from a free-kick before poking into the back of the net and the goal was disallowed.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:20

HALF-TIME: CHELSEA 0-0 ARSENAL

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:20

Palmer hits the wall with a free-kick, after doing exactly the same just moments earlier. He's not been at his brilliant best so far in this game.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:17

There will be three minutes of additional time at the end of this first half.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:17

Yellow Card Chukwunonso Tristan Madueke

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:15

Chelsea have conceded at least once in each of their last six Premier League home games, last having a longer such run between December 2015 and August 2016 (13). With five of those games coming in 2024-25, it’s their longest run without a home clean sheet from the start of a league campaign since 2011-12 (six).

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:13

As we close in on half-time, it remains goalless at Stamford Bridge. There have been just two shots on target, and neither side has really got into their full attacking flow yet.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:11

White is now yellow-carded having caught Neto with a flailing arm off the ball.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:09

Chelsea have been shown more cards for dissent (nine) than any other side in the Premier League this season, and that could cause problems further down the line in terms of suspensions. Maresca will be wary of that.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:06

Yellow Card Pedro Lomba Neto

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:06

NO GOAL!!! Havertz is ruled to be marginally offside, and much to Chelsea's relief, the goal is ruled out. It remains 0-0, but Maresca won't be best pleased with how his side switched off from that free-kick.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:05

GOOOAAALLL!!! HAVERTZ GIVES ARSENAL THE LEAD!!! Chelsea are fuming as they feel the referee didn't allow them time to get organised from a free-kick. Rice slips through Havertz, who holds off a nearby defender before poking past Sanchez and into the back of the net against his former side. 1-0 to the Gunners at Stamford Bridge! However, there will be a VAR check to see whether the Germany international is offside...

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:04

Assist Declan Rice

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:03

Goal Kai Lukas Havertz

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:03

Arsenal have lost 2-0 to Bournemouth and 1-0 to Newcastle in their last two Premier League away games. They last lost three in a row on the road in December 2021, while they last did so without scoring in August 1994.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

17:03

Both sides have had chances now to get their noses in front with the two goalkeepers both making impressive stops. Chelsea have probably just about shaded it.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:59

CLOSE! Just moments after Chelsea should have gone ahead, Arsenal nearly take the lead themselves as Martinelli sees a low drive from a tight angle saved by Sanchez. This game is starting to liven up.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:58

Of all managers to face Chelsea at least 10 times in the Premier League, only Kenny Dalglish (77%) has a higher win rate against the Blues than Arsenal’s Arteta (60%).

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:56

GUSTO SHOULD SCORE! Neto again picks out a team-mate at the back post with another excellent cross. Gusto is there waiting, but the full-back can only nod over the crossbar from close range.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:52

Yellow Card Levi Lemar Samuels Colwill

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:52

After good work from Palmer, Neto lofts a cross to the back post, where Madueke rises to meet it. The winger gets a header away but is put off by the nearby defender, nodding wide of the target.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:50

Arsenal are left raging after Caicedo, who is captaining Chelsea here, clatters into his Gunners counterpart Odegaard in midfield. Having just welcomed him back from injury, Arteta won't like seeing that sort of challenge on his skipper.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:48

Since the start of last season, Chelsea’s Jackson has been involved in more London derby goals than any other player in the Premier League (10 goals, two assists), with his 12 involvements coming in his last nine such appearances.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:46

Arsenal are starting to get going in attack, getting up the field after a sluggish start to proceedings. They'll be wanting to get the likes of Saka and Martinelli on the ball more, though.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:43

Chelsea have won just one of their last nine Premier League games against Arsenal (two draws, six defeats), a 2-0 away win in August 2021.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:42

Lavia and Havertz receive a stern telling-off from the referee after clashing ahead of an Arsenal corner. Michael Oliver is certainly laying down the law early on.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:40

Odegaard is making his first start for Arsenal since August 31 (v Brighton). He's never lost when featuring for the Gunners at Stamford Bridge (three wins, one draw in four games).

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:39

The hosts have settled the better, with Arsenal not yet having much of the ball. Facing a side whose confidence may have been dented by back-to-back defeats, Maresca would love an early goal.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:35

SAVE! Chelsea get Palmer on the ball early, and he tries his luck from range. His powerful effort is dipping in, but Raya gets up well to make an acrobatic stop by tipping over the bar.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:31

Arsenal kick us off and we are under way!

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:27

The two teams enter the pitch at Stamford Bridge ahead of this London derby!

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:27

The big news in terms of Arsenal team news is a return to the starting line-up for captain Odegaard, making his first start for the Gunners since late August. Rice will also play from the off after missing the defeat at the San Siro.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:27

Maresca again makes 11 changes to his starting XI, with the big boost of star man Palmer returning amid concerns over his fitness following a hefty challenge from Manchester United's Lisandro Martinez last weekend. Nkunku scored a double against Noah in midweek, but it's Jackson who gets the nod up top here.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:07

Arsenal, meanwhile, were beaten 1-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday by Inter, the Gunners' second straight defeat in all competitions. Expected to be challenging for the Premier League title come the end of this season, Mikel Arteta's men have been a little underwhelming and head into this one below the likes of Nottingham Forest and Brighton in the table. They're already 10 points behind leaders Liverpool, and dropping points again here would be another huge blow to their hopes of finally getting over the hump having come so close the last couple of seasons to pipping Manchester City to top spot.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

16:07

After a rough spell over the last couple of seasons, finally Chelsea seem to have turned a corner under new boss Enzo Maresca, with the Blues currently sitting fifth in the Premier League and able to move into the top four should they collect at least a point here. Maresca's fringe players got a chance to impress during the week in Europe, and they did just that as a starting XI with 11 changes thrashed Armenian side FC Noah 8-0, the biggest victory in the Europa Conference League's short history.
