Chelsea should go all out to sign Tottenham star Harry Kane, a former Blues player has said. Florent Malouda, who won both the Premier League and Champions League at Stamford Bridge, has urged his former side to join the race for the English striker.
Kane, who has now scored 201 Premier League goals throughout his time in north London, is said to be the subject of transfer interest from Manchester United, with the Sun reporting that Erik ten Hag’s side are ‘confident’ of signing the Spurs ace this summer. However, Malouda believes Todd Boehly and co. should challenge United for his signature.
“Chelsea should definitely join the race for Harry Kane,” Malouda said to DAZN Bet. “Kane is a world-class player who knows the Premier League, and it is an era where Chelsea need a striker with his goalscoring record and the ambition to win trophies.

“If Kane ever leaves Tottenham, it will be because of the lack of trophies. Kane would be a great signing, but I’d be surprised if he left Tottenham for Chelsea because of the rivalry.
“It’s not like leaving Tottenham for Arsenal, but to leave Tottenham for Chelsea, I’d be surprised but anything is possible. He’s a great option for any club in the Premier League, and for Chelsea he’d be a great pick.”
Chelsea have found goals hard to come by all season under Graham Potter, and have often fielded a line-up without a recognised number nine. Kane would certainly fill the void currently found within the vast squad, but would represent an expensive outlay for an ownership that has already spent £600million in just two transfer windows.
Any ambitions of tempting Daniel Levy to accept a bid for their star striker may be made easier by the 29-year-old now into the final 18 months of his current contract. His future became even more uncertain after his side were dumped out of the Champions League in disappointing style against AC Milan on Wednesday evening, which could see a cut to his asking price.
Persuading the Tottenham man to move across London may prove a trickier challenge, given Kane’s allegiances to the Lilywhites. This season, Kane has achieved his ambition of becoming Spurs’ all-time top goalscorer, and could now seek the right opportunity to end his career-long drought of winning a trophy.
The forward almost joined Manchester City in 2021 before Pep Guardiola's side ultimately pursued the signing of Erling Haaland instead. With the current English champions now seemingly out of the race, options seem limited for Kane, and Chelsea could make the most of an opportunity opening up.
