Chelsea transfer news: Todd Boehly unlocks £40m discount as second Aurelien Tchouameni bid eyed

Your Chelsea transfer round-up on Wednesday, June 21.

Jackson discount

Villarreal chief Roig Negueroles has confirmed that Chelsea are signing Nicolas Jackson for far less than his release clause suggests. The 21-year-old striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League for a while now following his impressive performances in the Spanish top flight.

"Jackson is a player with great potential, and he may be worth £70m in the future," Negueroles told Spanish outlet AS. "Now this is the contract that he has and the clause that he has, and I don’t think that amounts like that should be underestimated."

Then, Negueroles described Jackson's spike in form following his return from injury as a surprise. He added: "He’s been very impressive, although being a forward who scores so many goals creates so much more of an impact.

"He was a player whose potential we saw but who we knew was lacking goals, like he had in the academy. What he has done these last 10 games has been spectacular and in a way unexpected."

Costa interest

Chelsea appear to have stepped up their efforts to sign a replacement for Edouard Mendy this summer. The 31-year-old goalkeeper was heavily linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge for a large majority of the season having played understudy to Kepa Arrizabalaga.

According to Portuguese publication Record, Diogo Costa is on the Blues' list of options to replace Mendy. The report states that there has been no 'concrete proposal' from the west Londoners yet, but negotiations are expected to be led by Jorge Mendes, who has a 'close connection' with both parties.

The report states that Porto are hoping to rake in around €75million (£64.2m) for the 23-year-old shot-stopper. Earlier this month, the Portugal international was quizzed on his future at the Estádio do Dragão, but he remained coy.

Tchouameni bid

Chelsea appear to have reignited their interest in Aurelien Tchouameni, a year after Real Madrid hijacked a move to sign the midfielder. The 23-year-old faces a somewhat uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu following the arrival of Jude Bellingham, who became the second most expensive signing in the club's history.

Carlo Ancelotti will be treated to a wealth of midfield options next season, with Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde also pushing for a place in the starting lineup. As a result, first-team minutes could be difficult to come by and Chelsea seem eager to capitalise on the uncertainty which hangs over Tchouameni's future

According to Spanish outlet SPORT, the Blues have already tabled an opening bid of €60million (£51.4m) for the France international this summer, but it was swiftly turned down. The report states that Chelsea are now considering whether or not to raise their offer to €80m (£68.5m), which could tempt Real Madrid.
