Chelsea to hijack another Arsenal transfer with striker deal after Mykhaylo Mudryk move

Todd Boehly looks set to hijack another Arsenal transfer plan as Chelsea consider a move for Borussia Monchengladbach star Marcus Thuram, according to reports. The 25-year-old forward has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League lately amid an increasingly uncertain future in the Bundesliga.

Thuram, who sees his contract with the German outfit expire at the end of the season, has featured 17 times for Daniel Farke's side this season directly contributing towards 17 goals. He also played a key role for France in Qatar at the World Cup by providing two assists - one of which was in the final to equalise against Argentina.

The striker's impressive displays have brought great interest in his signature, with Arsenal said to have closely monitored his progress. Ahead of the January transfer window, the Gunners were credited with interested in Thuram, according to Milan Live.

The report stated that the Frenchman had been on Mikel Arteta's radar for 'some time now'. Now, fresh reports from Fabrizio Romano outline Chelsea's new-found interest in Thuram - just days after the Blues locked horns with Arsenal for Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The Gunners made their first attempt to sign the Ukrainian less than a week before the January transfer window opened, football.london understands. And, now, the west Londoners are said to be just as eager to sign Mudryk.

According to Romano, the Blues have 'opened talks' to explore a January deal for Thuram, who would be available via a free transfer in the summer if he were to not sign an extension at Borussia-Park. Boehly is set to be up against tough competition for Thuram's signature with 'many top clubs' - like Arsenal - in the race.

Romano adds that the Frenchman will take his time and 'consider all the options'. Chelsea reportedly see the signing of Thuram as a 'big opportunity', with the £6million-rated striker set to be available for a cut-price fee.

With Borussia Monchengladbach unlikely to want to see Thuram leave without recuperating a fee, signing him becomes an attractive option. However, his potential arrival suggests that Graham Potter is unhappy with his side's current health in the striker department.

Armando Broja is currently out out action after sustaining a knee injury in a mid-season friendly against Aston Villa. The Albania international is expected to be out for at least the remainder of the season after learning that he needs surgery to fix a ruptured cruciate ligament in his right knee, football.london understands.

He will begin his rehabilitation programme soon, though he could be out of action for a minimum of five months and a maximum of 12. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, though fit, has struggled to find the net, Kai Havertz is viewed more so as a false-nine oppose to a No.9 and January signing David Datro Fofana may be seen as inexperienced.
