Brazil's bid to make Carlo Ancelotti their first foreign coach will hinge on Real Madrid 's Champions League fate.
Madrid face Chelsea in the quarter-finals and the European champions are hot favourites to progress after Frank Lampard was made interim boss at Stamford Bridge following Graham Potter’s ruthless sacking. But Ancelotti’s future at the Bernabeu is also coming under scrutiny after a miserable La Liga campaign that has seen them fail to keep pace with Barcelona at the top of the table.
And although Madrid hammered Barca 4-0 in the Nou Camp in midweek to overcome a first-leg deficit and book a place in the Copa del Rey final, failure to defend the crown they claimed for the 14th time by beating Liverpool in Paris last summer is likely to bring consequences.
The whole of Brazil will be watching when Ancelotti faces his former club in the Bernabeu on Wednesday night. And the vast majority will be hoping for a Chelsea victory.
Ancelotti is seen as the man to turn Brazilian talent into trophies. Tite was sacked as coach just days after his team suffered a shock World Cup exit at the hands of Croatia in the quarter-finals.
And the Italian FA have turned their attentions to the Italian who has won the Champions League four times as a manager with Madrid and AC Milan after lifting it twice as a midfield player of some renown with the Serie A club.
Should Carlo Ancelotti leave Real Madrid at the end of the season? Let us know in the comments below!
Former Real Madrid forward Predrag Mijatovic believes that Ancelotti is not happy with life at Los Blancos and could leave the Spanish capital this summer amid links to the Brazil job.
Speaking to Cadena SER, Mijatovic said: "Ancelotti’s behaviour has changed a bit. His face is a little more serious than it has been since he has arrived.
"You have to understand that Real Madrid is a very complicated club, it always depends on whether or not you win the important titles. He has to be calm because the people and the players love him a lot."
He added: "I have the feeling that something is happening and that Carletto is not as happy as he was a couple of months ago. I would like him to be there for another year."
Real Madrid currently sit second in La Liga but a mammoth 12 points behind Barcelona at the top. Los Blancos could close the gap on Barca should they beat Villarreal on Saturday evening.
However, Ancelotti's side did beat Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-final second-leg 4-0 on Wednesday thanks to a hat-trick from Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr's effort.
