Newcastle United transfer target Anthony Gordon is the subject of a £40million bid from Chelsea. The Everton midfielder may have kicked his last ball for the Goodison Park side with the Blues deadly serious on bringing him to the capital.
ChronicleLive understands that Chelsea's bid for Gordon went in on Sunday afternoon. Newcastle had held discussions with Everton over a £35million price for Gordon but the move alerted Chelsea with high level talks following swiftly. Frank Lampard had been adamant that Gordon was staying on Merseyside.
Lampard said last month: "He gives everything and is going nowhere. He is our player and we want to build with him."
But Everton's resolve is about to be tested to the absolute limit and Newcastle may have to look elsewhere for the wide player Eddie Howe desires.
