Chelsea striker drops injury update with cryptic message amid Todd Boehly transfer dilemma

Chelsea have already spent over half a billion pounds under their new ownership of Boehly-Clearlake in just two transfer windows, yet it still feels as though there is more needed within the squad. A few positions may be a couple of options short, yet there is one glaring gap in the side.

That's at centre-forward, where the Blues lack an outright presence in the side that can help in all phases of play and score goals too. Romelu Lukaku was signed for that exact reason in 2021, but after one season, he was shipped back out on loan to Inter Milan having failed to live up to the promise of the transfer.

"The notion that you can just go into a store and buy a No.9 that fits into your profile of investment — not just transfer fees, but salaries as well — it is not quite that straightforward," manager Graham Potter said on the club opting against signing a striker in the January window. "I don't know whether this was the case but from the outside, it seemed Chelsea had a problem with scoring goals and they spent close to £100m on a No.9 who was meant to fix the problem. As far as I can see, it didn't fix the problem."

It leaves Todd Boehly questioning whether the side need to find a big-money option for the role in the summer or if the current options will come good. One of those yet to prove himself is Cobham academy graduate Armando Broja, who impressed last season on loan with Southampton.

Upon his return, the Albanian international was given a few chances to start games, but picked up an injury in a friendly during the World Cup break that would spell the end of his season. It was a huge blow for the youngster, though he could end up being a solution to the goal scoring problems from the summer onwards.

The striker recently took to Instagram to post a cryptic message over his injury return, with the image showing the Chelsea gym. The caption reads: "Don't focus on the pain, focus on the progress," suggesting he is working his way back towards being fit again, with gym work coming first.

It remains to be seen exactly which capacity he will return to the first-team in by the summer, but it could give the recruitment team a dilemma.
