Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana offered Sevilla escape route from Union Berlin nightmare

Sevilla want Chelsea to help them hijack David Datro Fofana's loan spell at Union Berlin.

The 21-year-old striker is being targeted as part of Sevilla's new policy of signing younger players and they hope the Blues can help to facilitate the move.

Sevilla are keen to sign both Fofana and Inter Milan midfielder Lucien Agoume in January.

Despite being European regulars, they are currently just one point above the relegation zone during Spain's winter break, scoring just 23 goals in 19 LaLiga matches so far this season.

Fofana is considered an option to add goals to the attack despite him netting just twice in 17 matches for Union this term.

He only played in one of Union's four December matches before the winter break. The three-time Ivory Coast international risked damaging his relationship with the club's hardcore fans when refusing to shake then-manager Urs Fischer's hand while being substituted in October.

He has since apologised for the scenes during the 1-0 defeat against Napoli.

Fischer has since been sacked and replaced by Nenad Bjelica, but Fofana's fortunes have not improved, with Union now battling relegation.

They qualified for the Champions League for the first time in the club's history last season by finishing fourth in the Bundesliga.

Fofana, meanwhile, has been on Chelsea's books since last January, when he joined in a £10.6million move from Norwegian club Molde. He played just four times for former manager Graham Potter before moving on loan in the summer.
