Chelsea star reveals 'priceless' Enzo Fernandez quality after £106m transfer

Enzo Fernandez is Chelsea's second World Cup winner in the squad. He joins N'Golo Kante in the team with experience of lifting the famous trophy.

Although the Argentine did it before joining the Blues, his achievements in Qatar are just as remarkable. At the time of the tournament he was a 21-year-old having only made his international debut three months earlier. By the end of the final he had played every minute since coming on as a second half substitute and scoring against Mexico in the second group game.

His position as the fulcrum in an ever changing midfield dynamic with Alex Mac Allister and Rodrigo De Paul was the foundation for Lionel Scaloni's men and Fernandez's versatility was crucial. Across his senior career so far he has played as a No10, as a deep-lying playmaker, in a lone pivot and as part of a double pivot too.

It isn't just his technical skill that has impressed his new teammates though. Noni Madueke only joined one week earlier than Fernandez but has already shown his admiration for the club's new record transfer. The winger told the club's 5th Stand app: "He is going to bring a winning mentality to the team, which I think is priceless. I can’t wait to meet him, and get on the pitch with him!"

Madueke has previously spent time in the Crystal Palace and Tottenham academies before moving to Holland to further his career. In the Eredivisie he became a feared opponent due to his speed and direct dribbling. Linking up in the same team as Fernandez is a hugely exciting prospect for fans to witness.

Like the rest of the world Madueke was watching Fernandez in Qatar over the winter, adding: "I watched him play at the World Cup and he has such top qualities. He is a great player, and obviously he has proven that he is a born winner by lifting the World Cup."

Whilst on the books at Chelsea Marcel Desailly, Frank Leboeuf, Andre Schurrle, Kante and Olivier Giroud have all become world champions whilst Luiz Felipe Scolari won the tournament as manager before moving to Stamford Bridge some years later. In a squad that has recently won the Champions League it is important to keep the fresh feeling of winning and Fernandez does just that.
