Chelsea star Ji So-Yun to leave club at end of season following glittering WSL career

Chelsea midfielder Ji So-Yun is to leave the club at the end of the season, ending an eight-year stint with the Blues.

The 31-year-old is one of the Blues’ longest-serving players, having made more than 208 appearances for the club since signing from Japanese side INAC Kobe in January 2014.

Ji has won 11 major trophies with the club and was a crucial part of the side that won a domestic treble and reached the final of the Champions League last season.

The South Korean international could yet add to her haul, with the Blues top of the Women’s Super League with just two games to play and with an FA Cup final against Manchester City to look forward to.

In a statement announcing Ji’s departure, Chelsea boss Emma Hayes said: “What an honour and a privilege it’s been to coach one of the most amazing players the WSL has ever seen. There’s no question she’s been the most successful player from outside our league.

“Ji’s helped the club grow on and off the pitch and she’s a fabulous character who will be sorely missed. I will miss her terribly and I’m so grateful for everything she’s done for everyone at the football club. We are in a much better place because of it.”
