Chelsea set for £91.5m boost after sealing Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly double transfer

Chelsea are in the top ten for the most valuable squads in the world after the addition of Raheem Sterling and look set to increase that even further this summer. The Blues made a slow start to the window, with plenty of their rivals making additions before them.

However, the ball finally appears to be rolling as Sterling put pen to paper on a five-year deal to become the first men’s senior team signing of the Boehly-Clearlake era. A move for another Manchester City player was in the pipeline as personal terms were agreed to re-sign Nathan Ake.

However, the Netherlands international wasn’t able to make the switch after the two clubs were too far apart in their valuation of the defender. A centre-back does look set to join though as football.london understands a fee and personal terms have been agreed to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.

The Senegal international has signed his contract and passed his medical in London, awaiting an official announcement and a trip to America to meet up with his new squad members. Manager Thomas Tuchel was tight-lipped about the transfer though, saying: “It’s too early to talk about.

“I have to disappoint you, I won’t comment on it, we have to do it maybe tomorrow or hopefully in two days.” The two additions bolster the experienced options at the German coach’s disposal after losing key players over the summer.

The signings not only increase that, but it has seen an increase to the squad’s overall market value. As per Transfermarkt, the Blues are currently sixth for world market value with £722.43million, including the addition of Sterling valued at £63million.

Then add Koulibaly to that, who is valued by the site at £31.5million and it takes that up to £753.93million. Only Manchester City, PSG, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are ahead.

Should even more additions make their way to Stamford Bridge, that value could comfortably soar and take them realistically into third for squad value in the world.
