Chelsea sent warning about transfer target Jurgen Klopp 'didn't want' at Liverpool

Chelsea should think twice before signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, because Jurgen Klopp has never tried to bring his former player to Anfield.

That's the view of Tony Cascarino, who turned out for the West London club between 1992 and 1994. Thomas Tuchel is on the hunt for a fresh attacking option after two huge investments failed to pay off.

Despite paying Inter Milan a whopping £97.5million for former player Lukaku, the Belgian has returned to the San Siro on loan, just 12 months later. And having coughed up £47.5million for Timo Werner, he too has gone back to his former club RB Leipzig for just over half the initial outlay.

Barcelona player Aubameyang is understood to be an option under consideration by Tuchel, with the Catalan club in urgent need of offloading some players, but Cascarino has some doubts over bringing the former Arsenal captain to Stamford Bridge, sighting Klopp's like of interest as a clear indicator.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, he said: “He is a great finisher and a fabulous footballer, but my only concern is that Jurgen Klopp never went after him. He worked with Aubameyang a lot at Dortmund, but Jurgen was never interested in re-signing him.

“He was brilliant for Klopp as well, but never chose to bring him in – what does that tell you. There’s one thing having a player you had in your 20s and him excelling for you, which Aubameyang did at Dortmund, and then having him again at 33.”

Klopp managed a Borussia Dortmund side including Aubameyang until 2015, but despite being one of the most highly-rated forwards in Europe at the time, never made overtures to bring him to Anfield.
