The takeover of Chelsea has finally steered clear of choppy waters and it is now an inevitability that the sale to American billionaire Todd Boehly and his consortium will go through. It is a deal that ends Roman Abramovich's 19-year tenure at Stamford Bridge and the pressure will be on to match the success of the Russian.
There were plenty of hurdles for the bid to clear but with the governments of UK, Portugal and the EU finally rubber-stamping the takeover. Chelsea are yet to confirm the takeover themselves but plenty of reports indicate that it is just a matter of time until we see that.
Thomas Tuchel will be relieved to see the deal finally confirmed with plenty of work to do in the summer ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. The German admitted towards the end of this season that the uncertainty caused mid-season also had an impact on the players, particularly with the likes of Antonio Rudiger now set to leave on a free transfer.

"It surely effects the team but I cannot tell you to which degree," Tuchel said at the start of May. "The longer the situation goes, now it has a huge effect because Toni (Antonio Rudiger) leaves us in the middle of the process where we are sanctioned and could not even fight, could not do another offer, could not be in negotiations. It clearly has an effect and it makes not so much sense to deny it. We lose now one of our key players.”
Now, it appears fans, players and coaches can start to look to the future and what the Boehly era may bring. The Telegraph's Matt Law has been one of the leading voices on the deal and gave greater detail into what can be expected from the American moving forward, mainly that he will take a central role.
"I'm told Boehly is super excited," Law told the London Is Blue podcast. "He's been over here an awful lot recently. But it's felt like the last fortnight he has based himself over here. He's in every day. Obviously, there's a lot of work to do and a lot of headaches to deal with, but it feels like he's really excited to get hands-on and get going."
Law was then asked about which personnel could be joining the American in west London, to which he replied: "First of all, I think Todd Boehly is going to be very hands-on. I think he plans to spend an awful lot of time in London and certainly, for the foreseeable future, I think he's going to be around a lot. It's not going to be some sort of absent ownership."
