The takeover of Chelsea Football Club by a consortium spearheaded by American businessman Todd Boehly is advancing closer to completion with several unprecedented conditions expected to be built into the deal that aim to ensure the long-term stability of the club.
Boehly’s group, which will have significant financial backing from the Clearlake Capital firm, will be imminently put forward to the government, who must amend the club’s special operating licence to allow a sale to proceed.
That is unlikely to be a significant issue once Westminster officials are assured that sanctioned Russian Roman Abramovich does not stand to make any financial gain.
