Chelsea's Levi Colwill and bemused Ashley Cole punished in England under-21 Spain final chaos

Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill was booked during England under-21s Championship final against Spain in Georgia on Saturday after a mass brawl in the first half. The defender wasn't the only one punished in the situation, with former Blues left-back Ashley Cole sent off as part of the coaching staff.

It comes after rising tensions in a huge clash between the two nations as they look to leave the stadium with another historic trophy to their name. The Three Lions made the better start as Anthony Gordon, Cole Palmer and Morgan Gibbs-White missed out on huge opportunities to take the lead.

La Roja worked their way back into the game and caused plenty of problems for Lee Carsley's men, with several chances drifting just wide of James Trafford's goal. A mixture of fouls appeared to turn the game into a tense affair, with the referee constantly stopping play for infringements on either side.

England had a great chance before half-time as Colwill met a cross from a corner, but could only find the post as the opportunity went begging. That goalless draw wouldn't last long though as Manchester City star Cole Palmer stepped up for a free-kick on the edge of the box.

The shot in stoppage time of the first half appeared to take a deflection off of Liverpool's Curtis Jones, but England didn't care as they took the lead. In the celebrations, a mass brawl appeared to break out on the touchline as many players and coaching staff flooded onto the pitch.

Once it was calmed down, VAR checked the incident and booked Colwill and Oihan Sancet, while a bemused Cole was sent to the stands alongside a fellow member of the Spanish coaching staff. It remains to be seen just how much that could impact the second half.
