Chelsea finally acquired some support for Reece James in the transfer market in the form of Malo Gusto from Lyon. The Blues footed a £26.3million bid to the land the 19-year-old Frenchman but will have to do without his services until next term after it was agreed that Gusto would remain on loan for the remainder of the season.
It was a caveat that Jean-Michel Aulas made clear in negotiations for the youngster but completing the deal remains an important move of taking advantage of a more favourable situation with Financial Fair Play, as well as beating any future competition to the transfer.
However, the decision to allow Gusto to continue playing for Lyon will have some lingering impacts. It's been known for a considerable time that Reece James requires support and unless the west London side head back into the market to complete a short-term loan deal, he may not have as much as hoped.
