Chelsea’s fast-track plan for Levi Colwill leaves Trevoh Chalobah’s future uncertain

Trevoh Chalobah faces uncertainty over his Chelsea future, with Mauricio Pochettino ready to fast-track Levi Colwill into a prominent role at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino prefers working with smaller squads and is understood to only want four first-team centre-backs as he prepares to move to a back-four next season.

Standard Sport reported last month that Inter Milan want to sign Chalobah this summer.

While the 24-year-old would like to stay at Chelsea as a regular starter, that possibility looks increasingly unlikely.

What makes his exit this summer more likely is how highly Pochettino regards Colwill, the 20-year-old who spent last season on loan at Brighton.

Chelsea have rejected a £30million bid from Brighton for Colwill and insist he is not for sale as Pochettino prepares to bring him into the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge.

Other clubs are keeping tabs on Chalobah, and Chelsea are willing to listen to offers at the right price.

Chalobah last year signed a contract extension until 2028 but is targeting regular game time.
