Chelsea star Kai Havertz looks increasingly likely to play out his future away from Stamford Bridge as the summer transfer window looms large. The forward has struggled to find a place for the Blues, often utilised as either a number nine or a ten, without certainty as to which position his traits suit best.
The Germany international ended the Premier League season as the top scorer for the west London outfit, but with just seven goals to his name. Given his nearly £70million transfer to the club from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020, there was hope that his potential would continue to shine through.
Such has been the struggle over the past year that back in October 2022, Havertz spoke out on the debate surrounding his best position. "Everyone should know by now what I can do," Havertz said at the time. "I'm flexible up front and I can play a lot of different positions.
"Of course, sometimes it's good to play in different positions and sometimes it's bad. But in general, I'm an offensive player. I like to be in the box, I like to score goals, I like to arrive in the box often and I don't care if I'm there as a No.9 or a No.10. If I'm in the box, I'm there to score goals and that's it."
However, the lack of understanding that has followed since perhaps best underlines the struggles of the German ever since, albeit at a time where Chelsea have also had their problems. But with two-years remaining on his contract, the future of Havertz is reaching a crossroads.

And, according to Fabrizio Romano, it is becoming increasingly likely that it is going to be away from Stamford Bridge. The reporter claims that Chelsea have agreed with the forward that he will be allowed to leave this summer for his next chapter.
Real Madrid are a club heavily linked with a switch for the German, with their need to land a striker following the confirmed exit of Karim Benzema. Romano adds that the Blues are hopeful of other clubs joining the race for the former Bayer Leverkusen man, as a bidding war would increase his transfer price.
