Chelsea are fearful of losing midfield star Mason Mount due to their takeover situation, according to a report in The Sun. That is despite the Raine Bank group naming Todd Boehly’s consortium as the preferred bidder just days ago.
If the takeover goes through, it would put an end to a two-month saga at the club. It all stemmed from owner Roman Abramovich being sanctioned by the UK Government following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, putting a freeze on all of his assets in the nation.
The Blues were put on a special sporting licence, but were not allowed to sell tickets or merchandise as well as offer contracts to players among other restrictions. Some of these have since been eased, but until a takeover is completed, there is still uncertainty at the club.

This is something that Mount himself said he was concerned about last month. “I’ve been at the club since I was six years old and something like this has not happened before, so it can be a concern.
“At the beginning, and even now, we don’t really know where it’s going and what’s happening the next day. So it’s difficult. But we focus on our football and what we can do is try and win as many games as we can.”
However, The Sun have suggested that he could leave the club, claiming that Liverpool or Manchester City could take advantage of the current situation. Both Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are said to be fans of the 23-year-old.
It comes after his most prolific season for the Blues since his breakthrough. In 29 Premier League appearances, the England international has scored 10 and assisted nine.
If he can continue to progress, he could be a top player for the club for years to come. While there may be concern over his future, if the takeover can be swiftly concluded then those worries will be washed away.
