Edouard Mendy First called into action after 17 minutes when catching a Rony header but sent the wrong way by Raphael Veiga from the penalty spot. 6
Andreas Christensen Turned a couple of times when squeezing up near halfway but displayed an impressive ability to recover almost every time. Looked tired at the end of 90 minutes substituted. 6
Thiago Silva Looked bemused to have given away the penalty but it was a clear handball and the referee was right to award the spot kick following a VAR consultation. Not often one to take a long-range shot but went close in first half added time from about 30 yards as Weverton turned the ball around for a corner when it was likely going wide. Then headed over from the resulting set piece. 6
Toni Rudiger Excellent. Made an important interception on the half hour mark when Palmeiras were gathering up a head of steam and showed plenty of class when brushing off Rony with ease early in the second period. Had a long-range attempt soon after. 7
Cesar Azpilicueta Less threatening than Hudson-Odoi but typically solid without the ball - until his shot that won the penalty that is. It briefly looked like he would take it himself before handing the ball to Havertz. 6
N’Golo Kante After a sluggish 45 minutes in Wednesday’s semi-final, the midfielder looked far sharper from the off. Final ball was a tad misplaced when trying to find Havertz on two occasions but one of Chelsea’s better performers. 7
Mateo Kovacic Another typical steady performance without making a clear contribution going forward - discounting a high and wild striker in added time. Kept the ball moving, disruptive without it. 6
Callum Hudson-Odoi A big night for the England youngster, replacing Marcos Alonso at left wing backI, and it started well with a threatening cross to the back post. Should have done better a few minutes later when cutting in and having a shot blocked when passing seemed a better option but he was a consistent threat and the cross for Lukaku’s header was outstanding. 7
Mason Mount Got some physical treatment early on and ended up unable to continue beyond the half hour. Decided to shoot wide instead of cross from a promising free kick and showed one decent bit of skill to get away from Joaquin Piquerez on the right. Looked quite upset hobbling off. 5
Kai Havertz The European hero is now the world hero. His penalty finish was so cool, a stuttered run doing enough to put Weverton off and send the goalkeeper the wrong way. Made a composed start to spread the ball wide for Hudson-Odoi and saw two harmless shots drift wide midway through the half. Moved into a more central role following changes a quarter of an hour from the end of normal time. 7
Romelu Lukaku Finished the goal well but did very little either side before being replaced. His frustrations with inadequate supply was illustrated by his body language. Another evening where he needed better passing but also better movement. Chelsea’s attacking problems are not all his fault but he must cop a fair share of the blame. 6
Substitutes
Christian Pulisic (for Mount, 31) Lively but wasted another good free kick not long after coming on. Close to making it 2-0 when running on to a Lukaku layoff and dragged another attempt wide soon after the equaliser. 6
Timo Werner (for Lukaku, 76) Played centrally until end of normal time before moving to the eft, where he made some impact. 6
Saul Niquez (for Hudson-Odoi, 76) Worked hard. 6
Hakim Ziyech (for Kovacic, 91) Should arguably have come on earlier considering how Palmeiras were set up. 5
Malang Sarr (for Christensen, 91) Had a wild shot over when he should have passed to Werner. 5
Not used: Kepa Arrizabalaga, Marcus Bettinelli, Marcos Alonso, Jorginho, Trevoh Chalobah, Ross Barkley, Kenedy.
