Chelsea Peretti's comedy film First Time Female Director premieres March 8

Chelsea Peretti makes her directorial debut in First Time Female Director.

The highly anticipated directorial debut of Chelsea Peretti is set to hit screens in a refreshingly meta fashion. The former Brooklyn Nine-Nine star has taken on the roles of director, writer, producer, and lead actor in the upcoming comedy film, First Time Female Director. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Amy Poehler, Andy Richter, Max Greenfield, Benito Skinner, Kate Berlant, Meg Stalter, Jordan Peele, and Megan Mullally, among others.

PEOPLE has exclusively released the first trailer for the movie, giving fans a glimpse into the hilarious world created by Peretti. In the film, Peretti portrays Sam, an aspiring writer who unexpectedly finds herself thrust into the position of director when the previous director of the Regis Theatre is fired.

Peretti, 45, shares her excitement about the project, stating that the film features some of her favorite comedy talents. First Time Female Director touches on various thought-provoking themes, including the complexities of identity in contemporary society, the challenges faced by female leaders, the quest for meaning in one's work and life, group dynamics, and the precarious nature of success.

Sam's directorial debut revolves around the production of a Southern-inspired play titled Rain's Comin' In. The film takes a comedic turn as Sam grapples with managing a diverse cast, which includes Rudy, played by Benito Skinner, an eccentric theater enthusiast; Clara, portrayed by Kate Berlant, an overly trained amateur; Davina, played by Meg Stalter, a vain and tech-addicted individual; Marjory, portrayed by Megan Mullally, a seasoned theater veteran; Simon, played by Jak Knight, a naturally gifted actor; and Corden, portrayed by Blake Anderson, a minor actor who unexpectedly wields influence within the company.

As Sam strives to understand her struggles in finding success with her production, she experiments with various tactics to try and make her play a hit. Will Sam finally achieve her big break as a director, or will her experiences as a first-time female director lead her down an entirely different career path?

Fans of comedy and theater alike are eagerly awaiting the premiere of First Time Female Director. The film promises to deliver a delightful blend of theatricality and humor while exploring the challenges faced by women in leadership roles. Mark your calendars for its release on The Roku Channel on March 8th and prepare for a film that is bound to entertain and enlighten audiences in equal measure.
