Chelsea news: Todd Boehly and Thomas Tuchel agree on problem as WSL title claimed

Chelsea's incoming new owner Todd Boehly appears to have already agreed with Blues boss Thomas Tuchel over how to tackle one of the club's biggest problems.

Boehly’s consortium is understood to be primed to wrap up the £4.25billion purchase of the Stamford Bridge outfit in the coming days following the news early on Saturday morning that the Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner has agreed terms to buy the club. And he may have already hinted how he will tackle the recruitment of new players once the takeover is all sealed.

It comes as Wolves goalkeeper coach Tony Roberts branded Romelu Lukaku a "big lump" following the 2-2 draw on Saturday. And the Blues have wrapped up a third consecutive Women's Super League title after beating Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

Here are Mirror Football's latest Chelsea headlines.

Chelsea win WSL title

Chelsea won the Barclays Women's Super League for the third time in a row after coming from behind twice to defeat Manchester United 4-2 and end Arsenal's title hopes.

The Gunners knew they had a chance to win the WSL title on the last day of the season if they bettered the Blues' result against Unted as they faced off against West Ham. And it had appeared within their grasp as Chelsea trailed United twice at Kingsmeadow, the first through Martha Thomas' header and the second after an Ella Toone volley.

But a beautiful volley from Sam Kerr levelled the scores before Guro Reiten's close-range strike gave them the lead and another Kerr volley wrapped up the win. It was a dramatic last day of the WSL season, with the Blues also ensuring Manchester United missed out on a Champions League spot.

Lukaku branded a "big lump"

Romelu Lukaku was branded "a big lump" by Wolves goalkeeper coach Tony Roberts as he questioned whther the Blues should have been given a penalty during Saturday's 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Visiting captain Conor Coady rescued a point with an added-time header for Wolves to stun the Blues, who had stormed into a 2-0 second-half lead through Lukaku’s smart double. The Blues took the lead with a second-half penalty after the powerful Belgian forced drew Romain Saiss into a trip in the box.

He then confidently dispatched the resulting penalty, although Roberts questioned the decision to award a penalty as he said he's "not sure" there was enough contact for Lukaku to go down.

Boehly and Tuchel agree on problem

Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly wants to build a team 'don't want to play against' – and may want to employ the same tactics at Chelsea.

The Boehly-led consortium appears set to be successful in their bid to become the new owners of Chelsea after Roman Abramovich put the Stamford Bridge outfit up for sale following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. football.london reports that, when talking about his ambitions for the Dodgers back in 2018, Boehly said: "We're trying to get to the point where they [the opposition] don't even wanna play and we just win before we even have to play.

"So getting the team around it, and then you obviously have to get the scouts to start to believe and you have to get everyone to start to use data." And the comments are strikingly similar to Thomas Tuchel's plans, which he laid out shortly after arriving at the club.
