Chelsea news: Petr Cech warns players as Romelu Lukaku shares cryptic post

Chelsea are just one step away from being crowned Club World Cup champions.

On Saturday evening, they will face Palmeiras at Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in the climax of the competition and the Blues will be big favourites to clinch the prize.

Manager Thomas Tuchel will want to see a better performance from his team, as they were well short of their best in the semi-finals. Romelu Lukaku's first-half goal was eventually the difference between the European champions and Al-Hilal, but Chelsea needed Kepa Arrizabalaga to make some smart stops to preserve his clean sheet.

Here are your latest Blues headlines ahead of the final.

Will the Club World Cup have a detrimental effect on Chelsea's domestic season? Let us know in the comments below!

Cech's Club World Cup regret

While the UEFA representatives at the Club Word Cup typically emerge with the trophy, there have been occasions when shocks have been sprung.

One of those came in 2012, when the Blues were again the European champions. However, they were beaten in the final by Corinthians.

Blues midfielder Mason Mount has confirmed that Petr Cech, who was part of that Chelsea side, said not adding the title to Champions League success that season was one of his biggest regrets.

"Petr has spoken to us a bit in training that he doesn’t have many regrets in his career, but one of them was not doing this to its fullest and winning this competition when he had the chance because it only came around once for him," he said.

"It may only come around once in my career, so as a group we know how serious we’re taking this and how important it is to give it everything to win a major competition that not many win."

Lukaku's cryptic post

Lukaku has hinted at even more problems at Chelsea with a message on his Snapchat.

The forward has already spoken about his frustration this season, prompting manager Thomas Tuchel to leave him out of the team. Lukaku also hinted that he would be open to making a move back to Inter Milan.

While the striker has been back in the side as of late, he has yet to find his best form in front of goal.

And on Friday, the former Manchester United and Everton forward posted cryptic message to his followers on social media which read "if you have to force it then it probably doesn't fit."

Mount reveals losing motivation

While some players are quick to discard runners-up medals after finals, Mount has confirmed he keeps his to use as motivation.

The Champions League will be Mount's prized piece of silverware, although he also has two FA Cup runners-up medals and another from last summer when England came up just short against Italy at the European Championships.

"Hopefully on Saturday this one will be up there," he said of his winners' medal cabinet.

"But I think you look at the second place ones for memories and experiences, the Euros one, the FA Cups. You look at them and think how distraught you were after the game and they bring back that kind of feeling when you look at it.

"I know a lot of players, as soon as they get a second place medal, they throw it to the side but I kinda like having them. They’re not in the trophy cabinet. They’re in the side. You can use them as motivation."
