Chelsea news: How Jorginho outsmarted Bruno Fernandes as Roy Keane gives Kepa verdict

Your morning Chelsea digest with football.london on Monday, October 24.

How Jorginho got the better of Fernandes

There aren't many cooler heads in football than Jorginho. There's always nervousness when he steps up to take a penalty but rarely does the Italian miss.

Such was the time taken between his spot kick being given against Manchester United and the actual event itself he would have been forgiven for being put off and distracted, but that wasn't the case. Despite Bruno Fernandes' attempts to tell David de Gea how best to set up, he was still sent the wrong way.

Jorginho also had to deal with a group of players standing over the spot and maybe messing up the grass before the kick was taken.

His coolness didn't waver though and sent Graham Potter into a vitally important lead before Casemiro's late header.

Keane's Kepa verdict

Kepa Arrizabalaga is having maybe the best spell of his professional career, certainly his time at Chelsea, but the late leveller from Manchester United caught the attention of Roy Keane after the Spaniard got a touch on the ball but couldn't divert it wide of the post.

The new No.1 has been in inspired form since Potter took over and helped to keep Chelsea from going behind against both Aston Villa and Brentford but conceded his first goal in nearly six matches with Casemiro's effort.

Speaking about the goal, Keane said: "I look at my goalkeeper... If you can get a hand to it, you can do a little bit more. But the header... look at the desire. If you're in the Chelsea dressing room, you'd be sick. I'd be disappointed for my goalkeeper."

Loftus-Cheek's good sign

Ruben Loftus-Cheek was called upon to play in a midfield partnership with Jorginho in the opening half an hour against Manchester United before Potter's tactical tweak allowed the Blues back into the game.

The 26-year-old has been one of the best players under Potter but struggled in a midfield overload at Stamford Bridge. Potter's change was decisive though and ensured that Loftus-Cheek was able to grow into the game. Having also played as a makeshift wingback his versatility is very much admired and appreciated, but defensive struggles in midfield continue for Chelsea.

Speaking after the match, he said: "It was just one of those games but I thought we had it [the win], we were defending well and then to be honest I don't know how Casemiro's got the power on that header to send it up and down. It feels like a defeat."
