Chelsea news: Boehly admits mistakes as Blues icon accuses owner of 'dirtying club's image'

Chelsea are in the midst of one of the worst season's in their proud history and much of the blame is being laid at the door of owner Todd Boehly.

The American businessman has sacked two managers since the campaign began, including Champions League winner Thomas Tuchel. The German coach was replaced by Graham Potter, who also met the same fate back in April and has since been replaced by club icon Frank Lampard on an interim basis.

Lampard has lost six successive games since taking the reins and as a result Chelsea, with five games left to play this term, are not yet mathematically safe from relegation. The Blues are also yet to reach the 40-point mark, a tally most assume is enough of an amount to secure Premier League safety.

With that in mind, here are some of the main headlines surrounding matters at Stamford Bridge on Friday, May 5.

Boehly has conceded that he and others close to him at the top of Chelsea's hierarchy have made mistakes that they will try to rectify.

Speaking at the Milken Institute Global Conference, the Blues chief called for patience from the Stamford Bridge faithful.

"You know they want to win and we get that we want to win so you know I think our view through was that this is a long-term project and you know we're committed to the long-term," Boehly explained.

"We very much believe that we're going to figure it out. We've got the best league in the world, we've got what I think is the top city in the world and we've got an unbelievable location in the top city in the world."

Chelsea's image soured by Boehly according to Blues legend

Frank Leboeuf pulled no punches with his brutal review of former side Chelsea (ESPN FC)

Frank Leboeuf has slammed Boehly and the Chelsea squad for "dirtying the image of the club" after their latest defeat at the hands of London rivals Arsenal.

"Shameful, disgraceful, pitiful," the Frenchman told the Daily Mail. "I don't know if the players understand what they are doing right now.

"On top of dirtying the image of the club, they are dirtying their own image. What they are showing is the worst in the world of football.

"You can be bad, everybody can be bad, everyone has been bad - that can happen. But when you show no character, no commitment in what you are trying to do, it shows that you are unprofessional."

Neville issues Chelsea advice

Gary Neville has issued Todd Boehly with some advice (Sky Sports)

Gary Neville has called for Boehly to focus on off-field matters and stop meddling with on-pitch decisions.

"Boehly has had a nightmare and misread this league," Neville began on his Sky Sports podcast.

"I'm sure he'll learn quickly. What has happened this season is purely down to him. He needed to keep the footballing department together. He's the non-footballing department.

"You're the owner. You're not a player or a coach. You've got no experience in this league so stay where you are and allow the people to run the football club [who have done so] successfully over the last 10 years."
