Chelsea stumbled to a 1-0 win away at Everton during their first game of the new Premier League season with a performance that would have done little to convince their critics.
The Blues come in for some criticism and ridicule this summer after seeing a number of their ideal transfer targets snub them in favour of a move to La Liga giants Barcelona, while they also look to set to lose a player they already had to the Camp Nou in Marcos Alonso.
However, things are looking slightly more optimistic in the blue half of west London as things stand with Chelsea keeping tabs on a number of high-profile players - including a bit of a payback with Barcelona as they prepare to pursue one of their own.
Mirror Football has taken a look at all the main headlines surrounding Chelsea as the transfer window hots up.
Tuchel admits "huge bond" with Aubameyang
The former Arsenal striker is familiar with the Chelsea boss from their shared time at Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and they clearly enjoyed a stellar working relationship.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang only joined Barcelona in January of this year, but is already being touted with an exit and a possible return to the Premier League eight months after leaving Chelsea's London rivals Arsenal.
Speculation surrounding the deal has only increased further with Tuchel's latest remarks. “I enjoyed a lot working with him," Tuchel confessed. "It was a pleasure.
"This has nothing to do with the situation now, but some players stay your players over the years because you were very, very close. Straight away there was a huge bond. We have a very close relationship."
Rodgers issues Fofana update
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has spoken publicly about Chelsea's pursuit of Foxes defender Wesley Fofana.
The Blues have already submitted two offers for the young Frenchman, but Rodgers insisted that both bids were swiftly rejected due to the fact they were nowhere near the club's valutation of Fofana.
"There were two [bids], but again, nowhere near what the club would even think about," The Leicester boss revealed.
Rodgers did not exactly rule out a Fofana exit in the coming weeks, as he added: "He is a top young defender. There are not too many about at his age.
"He is someone we would love to keep here but we will have to see what develops."
Tuchel makes Spurs comparison
Chelsea welcome London rivals Tottenham Hotspur to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon and Tuchel has claimed their opponents have been “a bit ahead of us from the start” when it comes to transfers this summer.
Due to the huge amount of upheaval in the Blues boardroom over the last few months, Tuchel feels Spurs had an advantage in attracting their targets.
“They took advantage of their situation in that they have a stable club, the ownership was clear, and it was clear that they reached the Champions League and took advantage to reinforce their squad very early,” the German explained.
“It was very straightforward. They had a calm pre-season. The roads were clear.
"It seems like they're a bit ahead of us from the start, out of the blocks, but it does not mean that you win the race just because you win the start."
