Chelsea make new goalkeeper transfer decision as Robert Sanchez rival prepares to arrive

Chelsea owners BlueCo have no interest in signing Stade Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen.

Reports in the French media have claimed the 20-year-old has visited Chelsea’s Cobham training ground, but Standard Sport understands that is not the case, and that BlueCo have no interest in signing the goalkeeper for either Chelsea or Strasbourg.

Jaouen has impressed this season in Ligue 2, the French second division, which has led to contact between his representatives and a number of European clubs.

But while BlueCo scouts have tracked him as one of many young goalkeepers playing regularly at a high level in Europe, sources maintain interest will not escalate into a move.

Jaouen has been a mainstay for Stade Reims, making 34 league appearances and keeping 15 clean sheets last season.

He made his France Under-21 debut in November 2025 and has been linked with Newcastle and Real Madrid.

There is set to be a development in Chelsea’s goalkeeping department this summer, with Mike Penders to be part of Xabi Alonso’s first-team squad next season after an impressive loan spell at sister club Strasbourg.

The Belgium international will join up with the Chelsea first team after the World Cup and is set to provide competition for first-choice goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

Penders’s impending move back to Chelsea comes as Filip Jorgensen pushes to leave in search of regular first-team minutes.

Chelsea are open to letting Jorgensen depart this summer. The 24-year-old made just 12 appearances in all competitions last season, and made high-profile errors when selected ahead of Sanchez in defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, which Chelsea lost 5-2 to be knocked out of the Champions League.

Chelsea held an interest in AC Milan shot-stopper Mike Maignan last summer but could not agree on a fee with the Serie A giants. Maignan has since signed a new contract with the Rossoneri.
