Chelsea appear to have made their decision over the future of veteran centre-back Thiago Silva at the club, if recent reports are to be believed. It comes at a time where the Blues are undergoing a complete squad overhaul in the transfer market, with a whole host of incomings over the past two transfer windows.
The club's new model has seen an emphasis on signing promising youth players, spending over £250million in the summer as well breaking the £150million mark for this month. Benoit Badiashile has been one of the latest acquisitions from AS Monaco, with the youngster slotting into the team seamlessly so far.
The Frenchman has heaped praise on the experience of Silva to help him through the opening stages of his Chelsea career so far though, telling talkSPORT: "First and foremost, it’s a real honour to play alongside him [Thiago Silva]. And do you know what, for a young player like me, he’s someone that makes things easy.

“He’s a legend, isn’t he? He’s a real leader, he’s very, very experienced of course. Any of the advice that he gives me is always welcome, he’s advised me not only when we’ve been playing – he’s spoken to me during the game."
It shows the value of keeping some experience in the squad, even while the new philosophy is centred around bringing through the youth. Even though the centre-back is now 38-years-old, it appears as though there is a place for him in the short-term future at Stamford Bridge.
That's because the Times report that Chelsea are eyeing up a contract offer for the Brazilian that will tie him down for yet another season. Silva's current deal expires at the end of the current campaign, having continually extended on a one-year basis since arriving in 2020.
It remains to be seen when an offer will be formally made and if Silva is willing to put pen to paper on yet another extension that will take him to 39-years-old.
