Chelsea make huge decision on Gabri Veiga transfer as Mauricio Pochettino plans explained

Mauricio Pochettino's great Chelsea revolution is underway as the newly appointed head coach begins shaping the squad in his view this summer. The midfield is an area that is set for the biggest change as Jorginho's exit in January looks set to be followed by Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic, while N'Golo Kante's contract situation only adds further uncertainty.

Plenty of names have been linked with filling the void in the centre of the pitch, including Celta Vigo youngster Gabri Veiga. football.london understands that the 21-year-old is liked by the Blues, however he is not currently the main priority heading into the summer window.

The Spanish youth international has had a breakout season in La Liga, making 36 appearances, where he scored 11 non-penalty goals and added four assists. It was a run of form that saw Celta Vigo narrowly beat the drop, with Veiga's brace in a 2-1 victory over Barcelona on the final day keeping their top flight status.

That has naturally brought with it plenty of interest from the top clubs, with Chelsea in the hunt, but with their priorities held elsewhere at this moment. Manuel Ugarte was viewed as one of the first options this summer, but the west London outfit backed out of the running.

Instead, the midfielder looks set to join PSG as the French club reached an agreement with Sporting CP, forcing the Blues to look elsewhere for a partner to Enzo Fernandez. football.london understands that Chelsea are expected to push for a deal to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton as a result.

The 21-year-old was linked with a move to the Blues in January, alongside rivals Arsenal, but a new deal signed with the Seagulls shortly after means the power lies with them in any negotiations. It remains to be seen if the lack of European football for Pochettino's squad next season will also play a part.

With an emphasis on exits for Chelsea this summer, the squad rebuild may take some time as Boehly-Clearlake's plans for younger talent acquisition continues.
