Chelsea legend John Terry pays glowing tribute to Newcastle United

John Terry and Peter Crouch have paid glowing tributes to Newcastle United after they booked their place in the Carabao Cup final with a 2-1 victory over Southampton at St James' Park.

Sean Longstaff opened the scoring inside five minutes and bagged his first career brace by adding the finishing touches to a slick attacking move.

Che Adams reduced the deficit when he unleashed a long-range shot into the bottom corner, but Newcastle ultimately prevailed 3-1 on aggregate.

Chelsea legend John Terry was impressed by the attacking performance of Eddie Howe's side. The former England international tweeted to his 568K followers: "I'm loving what Newcastle are doing and how they play. They constantly look to play forward and as a neutral it's great to watch."

St James' Park enjoyed one of its finest nights as an electrifying atmosphere was rewarded with Newcastle reaching their first League Cup final since 1976.

Ex-Liverpool, Tottenham and Stoke forward and former England international Crouch added: "St James' Park is on par with anywhere in the world when it's like this."

Newcastle will face either Manchester United or Nottingham Forest in the final at Wembley Stadium on February 26. The two sides will meet at Old Trafford for the second leg on Wednesday evening, with the Red Devils winning the first leg 3-0 at the City Ground last week.
