If Chelsea are to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli this summer they will have to break the Premier League transfer record once more. Todd Boehly and Co have already made their money splashing intentions clear in European football, smashing the previous most when purchasing Enzo Fernandez for £106.8m in January.
That is the latest deal of nearly 20 new signings that the new owners have made since taking over just less than one year ago. In that time over £550m has been spent on players but few have so far proven to be worth the big bucks paid.
Heading into the second summer of the Boehly-Clearlake administration there is no sign of letting up despite the need for wholesale changes within the squad. Already in possession of a 32-man senior group, Chelsea will need to cut down more than add to their armoury.

That doesn't mean that they won't be on the lookout for more deals should they come around, though. A new midfielder is still on the menu whereas reinforcement in goal and up front will be looked at too. Coming into the latter category is Osimhen.
The 24-year-old is one of the hottest properties on the market having lead the line for Napoli in their record-breaking season in Serie A. He is amongst the best forwards in the world entering a summer that will see Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich all plotting moves new centre forwards.
He might be too expensive for even Chelsea to strike a deal for, though, as Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg writes: "The contact with #FCBayern has cooled down because of his price tag.
"At this stage a transfer is not affordable for Bayern. The club won’t pay more than €100m for a new striker and Neapel is still demanding up to €150m. Bayern is aware of it. Therefore no concrete talks with Bayern at this stage."
The German giants are seeking a replacement for Robert Lewandowski after he left the club last summer. They could face competition for Italy's leading marksman, though. Even at the price of £132m he will be one of the most sought-after players throughout the window.
Once more it's over to Boehly and his new recruitment team to put their money where their mouth is. Without the attraction of European football on offer and the burden of extreme selling demands this summer it waits to be seen if Chelsea could feasibly pull off a deal of this size, even for a priority area.
