Chelsea injury boost as Christian Pulisic returns to training with comeback close

Christian Pulisic has returned to Chelsea training for the first time since suffering a knee injury in early January.

The 24-year-old was back with Graham Potter’s squad on Wednesday but only joined his team-mates for part of the session ahead of Sunday’s game away at Tottenham.

Graham Potter said Pulisic would be out for “a couple of months” after he was injured against Manchester City on January 5, and the USA international is now closing in on a comeback.

Chelsea hope Pulisic can work towards an appearance against Leeds next week as he steps up his recovery, matching the timeline initially set by the medical department.

N'Golo Kante also returned to light training this week after more than six months out with a hamstring injury.

His return will be carefully managed but Chelsea are optimistic the midfielder will return in peak physical condition.

Having come through an injury crisis, Edouard Mendy and Armando Broja are now the only two Chelsea players out injured.

The return of key players is a boost for Potter, whose side are languishing down in 10th place in the Premier League.
