Chelsea hit with huge new injury blow ahead of Arsenal showdown

Blow: Liam Rosenior - (Mike Egerton/PA Wire)

Chelsea have been handed a huge new injury blow, with Estevao set for scans on a hamstring problem.

The Brazilian was absent from the matchday squad facing Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, but was sat behind the bench to watch his team-mates.

In his place, Pedro Neto started on the left wing and Romeo Lavia was named on the bench - his first matchday squad since November 1 - after a run out for the Under-21s on Friday.

The 18-year-old was not pictured in training in the days leading up to the Premier League match with the Clarets, leading to speculation that he may miss the match.

Estevao scored Chelsea’s third goal against Hull City in the 4-0 FA Cup win last Friday, but is now a doubt for next weekend’s Premier League clash with Arsenal at the Emirates.

The Brazil international has had a fine season, scoring 11 goals for club and country in all competitions.

This is Estevao’s first season at Chelsea following his summer arrival from Palmeiras.

Last month he missed the 3-2 win over West Ham as he flew back to Brazil on compassionate leave to see to a personal matter.
