Chelsea have ‘real asset’ in new transfer guru Christopher Vivell, says Graham Potter

Graham Potter has tipped Christopher Vivell to become a vital cog in Chelsea’s new leadership structure.

Vivell’s appointment as technical director was officially confirmed this week, with the ex-RB Leipzig guru already hard at work at Stamford Bridge.

The 36-year-old will bridge the gap between boardroom and boot room, filling the void left by Petr Cech’s departure in June.

Co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have completed a rapid overhaul of the west Londoners since their big-money takeover, with Vivell the latest addition to the new owners’ growing off-field structure.

Potter has already had several meetings with Vivell, and handed Chelsea’s new arrival full endorsement.

“I’ve met him a few times and have a good feeling,” said Potter. “I think he is going to be a real asset to the football club. I think his role is to connect the football in terms of the different departments.

“My normal relationship with technical directors is a supportive one. We’ll try to help each other so that’s how we’re going to work. I’m looking forward to our journey together.”

Vivell will work on transfer strategy as well as other areas of growth for the Blues, tasked with pushing forward Boehly and Eghbali’s ambitious plans for the Stamford Bridge club.

Chelsea’s new chiefs are determined to emulate the multi-club model initiated by the likes of Red Bull, and Vivell’s prior logistical experience in that field will now prove crucial.
