Chelsea handed major Estevao injury boost ahead of PSG showdown

Estevao took part in Chelsea training on Tuesday, in a huge potential boost as the Blues plot a Champions League comeback against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazilian teenager has been out for a month with a hamstring injury but trained with the squad at Cobham on Tuesday morning as he closes in on a return.

Reece James did not train with the rest of the Chelsea squad.

Liam Rosenior will provide an update on the availability of Estevao and James when he holds his press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Estevao has not featured since the 4-0 FA Cup win over Hull City on February 13.

Rosenior initially described the issue as an “awareness in his hamstring”, but the problem has forced the 18-year-old to miss the last six Chelsea matches in all competitions.

Estevao had been doing a specialised training programme to aid his recovery.

Rosenior will also issue an update on Jamie Gittens when he addresses the media ahead of the PSG game.

Gittens felt his hamstring in training last week and missed Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Newcastle, as Cheslea suffered a setback in their bid to qualify for the Champions League.

Estevao’s return to fitness would be a major boost to Chelsea as they bid to overturn a 5-2 first-leg deficit against PSG after their defeat in Paris last week.

A costly error by Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen sparked a late collapse as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia put PSG in control of the last-16 tie ahead of the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
