Chelsea handed £105m Jose Mourinho return blow amid Frank Lampard decision

Chelsea have been linked with a third reunion with Jose Mourinho following Graham Potter's sacking last week. The Blues remain in the hunt for a new permanent head coach and Mourinho has been one of the names mentioned in the past week.

Mourinho has taken charge of 320 games for the club over two spells between 2004-2007 and 2013-2015. He won three Premier League titles, three League Cups and the FA Cup and broke various Guinness World Records throughout his time.

The Portuguese has been one of the names mentioned in reports to replace Potter on a permanent basis. Todd Boehly recently re-appointed Frank Lampard as caretaker boss for the remainder of the season to ensure the process runs smoothly in choosing the correct candidate.

However, Mourinho's services may be unavailable by the time Lampard's temporary spell comes to an end in the summer. According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, the 60-year-old has been offered a lucrative nine-figure offer to join Cristiano Ronaldo and Nuno Espirito Santo in Saudi Arabia.

It's said Mourinho has been promised a total salary of £105million across a two year contract, possibly hinting at him taking charge of Ronaldo's Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal or the Saudi national team.

The Chelsea favourite has endured a successful return to Italy with Roma. After leading I Giallorossi to their first-ever European title last season, Mourinho is on course to return the club back in the Champions League with 10 Serie A games remaining.

However, the report suggests he is believed to be discussing the offer from overseas with his coaching team behind the scenes. Mourinho's contract at the Stadio Olimpico is set to expire at the end of next season and there has been no hint of him renewing his stay as of yet.

Should Mourinho take up the offer from Saudi Arabia, a third stint in charge at Stamford Bridge would all but be a distant memory. Chelsea remain interested in Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique to take over full-time in the summer.
