While clubs have wheeled and dealed throughout June and business has been completed and even announced, some transfers have been more done than others. Put simply, the transfer window has not been officially open for all deals, and while clubs can come to their agreements, a vast array of players will not have been able to be officially be registered until today, July 1.
Chelsea have seen a number of players depart the club already this summer. Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz have headed to Manchester City and Arsenal respectively, while Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly have completed moves to the Saudi Pro League. N'Golo Kante has already been officially confirmed as an Al-Ittihad player, and will also see July 1 as his official start date.
For Premier League sides, the transfer window opened on June 14. However, from that moment only dealings for players from the Premier League, English Football League and the Scottish divisions would be able to be registered immediately. As a result, the process of confirming deals for Kovacic and Havertz would have come with no issues or boxes left to tick.
July 1, however signals the opening of the international transfer window. This is the start of the period in which clubs are granted permission to register players from clubs who are based overseas. That will remain the case for Premier League clubs until September 1.
The period also coincides with the start of the new financial year for Chelsea. Having been able to bring in fees by the June 30 deadline, after spending so much over the course of 2022/23, the Blues will be able to turn their attention back to their outlay.
That means Nicolas Jackson, who saw his move announced on Friday evening will officially be able to register with the club on Saturday. Likewise, while Christopher Nkunku's transfer has already been announced, he will also be able to be registered officially as a Chelsea player.

The coming days could also see more departures confirmed. Friday evening saw the Blues confirm Charlie Webster was to head on loan to Heerenveen in the Eredivisie. His first training session is set to be on Saturday and that will follow the deal being able to be registered. Ferry de Haan, the club's general manager has spoken of the move.
He told Omrop Fryslan: "He [Webster] can handle several positions in midfield, but will also really have to get used to 'big men's football'. In that respect, he wants to invest in himself. Immediately after his visit, he indicated to his management that he is here wants to play football.
"Webster is a dynamic midfielder, a real box-to-box player. He has a great mentality and we are looking for those kinds of footballers."
Ruben Loftus-Cheek's transfer to AC Milan was also completed on Friday and he will be able to officially register on Saturday. It will also open up the potential departure of Cesar Azpilicueta who could join AC Milan.
