Frank Lampard has responded to suggestions that James Cordon helped him land a return to Chelsea as caretaker manager.
According to reports, the British television actor - who lives in America - has struck up a friendship with Blues co-owner Todd Boehly of late and recommended appointing Lampard to his new friend.
Corden knows Lampard through his cousin Jamie Redknapp, who work on the TV show 'A League Of Their Own' together, and supposedly helped convince Boehly to give the club legend another go in the dugout, two years after being sacked.
Asked about the reports ahead of facing Real Madrid, Lampard was less than impressed.
"Wow," he replied. "I saw the headline about James Corden. I’m absolutely not aware if it’s true or not. But it’s obviously a great headline to put together, casually, from the outside.
"When I look at the success of Todd Boehly, the owners of Chelsea football club, I think you have to respect that success and respect the idea that they will probably make decisions based on more than a conversation with one person.
"So that’s as much as I’m going to give your two questions."
