Chelsea have released their 25-man Champions League squad for the knockout stages with certain inclusions and notable omissions catching the headlines. The Blues are able to submit three new signings into their squad and after acquiring seven new players who will immediately link up with the club, four of those arrivals were set for disappointing news.
Ultimately it was decided that Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez would be the new signings that made the cut with Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana all missing out. A 24-man squad was submitted at the start of the Blues European campaign and a mid-season departure for Jorginho meant one more player needed to be left out to accommodate the maximum of three new signings.
Third-choice goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli was the name linked with a mid-season omission but the unclear injury timeline for current backup Edouard Mendy saw him keep his place with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang that player to miss out. The summer arrival scored two goals in the group stage campaign but has massively fallen out of favour at the club.
