Chelsea eye 'next Leroy Sane' transfer as Todd Boehly ready to use Jorge Mendes relationship

Todd Boehly could hand Chelsea a huge boost in the club's mission to sign Benfica wonderkid Diego Moreira. The 18-year-old winger has recently become linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as the Blues look to continue signing some of the World's best young talent.

According to the Mirror, the west Londoners are eager to secure Moreira's signature. He sees his deal with the Portuguese giants expire in 18 months and they want the teenage sensation to pen an extension at the Estadio da Luz.

The report states that Benfica are struggling to convince Moreira to commit his future and, therefore, may be left no choice but to cash in in the near future. The starlet, who has been compared to Leroy Sane and former Manchester United star Nani, could be a shrewd acquisition if Boehly can tap into his strong catalogue of contacts.

Moreira shares the same super-agent with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Felix - Jorge Mendes. According to the Athletic, the American billionaire met with Mendes in Portugal over the summer to discuss 'a number of topics'.

The former United striker was reportedly one of several players mentioned when Boehly held a meeting with the super-agent. While it remains to be seen whether Moreira's name was also a topic of conversation in said meeting, the Chelsea co-owner is known to be acquainted with Mendes which could prove useful.

In the meantime, the Blues have already welcomed five teenagers to the club under Boehly's reign, with several of which already beginning to show great promise in the first-team. Omari Hutchinson, who was prised away from Arsenal, impressed in a mid-season friendly against Aston Villa, while Carney Chukwuemeka has featured a number of times for Chelsea, often off the bench.

Zak Sturge joined from Brighton, Cesare Casadei arrived from Inter Milan and Gabriel Slonina left Chicago Fire in the MLS. The latter of whom is expected to unite with his new colleagues in the New Year.

The 18-year-old completed a £12million move to Stamford Bridge from Chicago Fire in the summer before returning to the MLS side on loan for the remainder of the season. The goalkeeper, who penned a deal that keeps him at the Blues until 2028, has been reduced to training with his new club at Cobham training ground.

As of August 11, Slonina began a two-week training period with his new teammates. Graham Potter was able to get a closer look at the shot-stopper.
