Chelsea eye January transfer solution to major injury crisis amid Mykhaylo Mudryk talks

Chelsea's current injury woes turned from a problem to a full blown crisis on Thursday night as three new absences were handed to Graham Potter. Seven first-team stars were already out of action for the clash with Manchester City before Mason Mount took a knock in training, keeping him out of the game.

Just a few minutes into the clash, further problems arose as Raheem Sterling went to ground clutching at his hamstring and failing to come back on against his former side. To add insult to injury, just moments later in the first-half, Christian Pulisic went down twice after struggling with the effects of a John Stones injury, also making way.

It leaves the Blues with as many as 10 players unavailable to Potter, hardly making his rocky start in charge of the club's transition any easier. “It doesn’t make it any easier," the manager said on his injury issues.

"It’s too soon [to know the extent]. Raheem, it was his first action in the game, a strange one, a back heel. Christian’s, he was running at full pelt and it’s a blocked shot and contact with his knee. Fingers crossed it’s not too bad.

"Mason [Mount] got a kick yesterday in training, again we’re hopeful for the weekend but it’s one of those things at the moment. I’ve never experienced anything like it and I’d ideally not want experience it here. But it is what it is, I have to just carry on.”

While the Blues have some solutions in their squad, they have the added bonus of the fact that the January transfer window has just opened. With that in mind, the Telegraph reports that they could step up talks with Shakhtar Donetsk to secure a deal for Mykhaylo Mudryk, despite a battle with Arsenal for the 22-year-old.

The west London outfit may be able to outbid their rivals for the forward, but his interest in a switch to the Emirates Stadium could be a blow. Elsewhere, the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Joao Felix have been linked, with Chelsea potentially able to push harder to secure moves for them.
