Chelsea are seeking fresh investment in their women’s team as they begin a new era under new head coach Sonia Bompastor.
Bompastor was yesterday appointed as successor to Emma Hayes, who has left after 12 trophy-laden year to take over the United States women’s national team.
Her arrival on a four-year contract from Lyon coincides with Chelsea launching a new long-term strategic plan to cement their position as a leading force in the women’s game.
From next season, the club will be repositioning its women’s team to sit equally ranked alongside the men’s.
The women’s team will have their own dedicated resources, management and commercial leadership, which will be focused solely on the growth and success of them.
Chelsea believe the approach will help attract new investment, as previously any prospective investor in women’s sides in England was required to invest through the affiliated men’s teams.
After analysing the market, Chelsea believe there are investors who want to venture solely into the women’s game and they hope their new plan will appeal to them.
