Chelsea have dropped a hint suggesting that Timo Werner could be in contention to face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final with Liverpool on Sunday.
The striker's involvement has been limited of late but with Romelu Lukaku's poor run of form culminating in him being dropped to the bench on Tuesday, there have been calls for Werner to be reinstated.
Lukaku was signed for a club-record £97.5million during the summer transfer window but has failed to hit the heights expected of him.
An ankle injury and an ill-judged interview with Italian media have both been slated as reasons for his shaky displays but Thomas Tuchel insisted his front-man is in a good place on Friday.
"I would say good, like everybody else," he said in his pre-match press conference when asked about the 28-year-old's mood since the Champions League clash with Lille.
"You know, I know, he's an important player, if you pay a lot of money these days for one single player there's a lot of focus on the player.
"But the focus is hugely on Romelu, but the situation is more or less the same for Jorginho. Sometimes it's not fair, sometimes it's a bit too much."
Tuchel will have the opportunity to claim his fourth piece of silverware since taking the reigns at Stamford Bridge just over a year ago.
He won the Champions League in May 2021 and added the UEFA Super Cup just a few months later. Recently his side claimed the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time in the Blues history.
Lukaku scored in both the semi-final and final of the tournament but any hopes of a return to form were extinguished by a display against Crystal Palace which saw him touch the ball just seven times.
Kai Havertz took his place as the focal point of the side in midweek and scored against the French champions. He is likely to retain his place but could he be joined by his compatriot?
Werner has made just 11 appearances for in the Premier League this season but was included in a club graphic shared on Twitter on Friday promoting the final with Liverpool.
Hakim Ziyech, Antonio Rudiger and Mateo Kovacic also featured on the London-themed image, three players expected to start at Wembley.
