Chelsea drop Christian Pulisic hint after Graham Potter gives Champions League update

Chelsea have given an early indication that Christian Pulisic is in line to make his comeback to action against former side Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday. The American spent three years in Germany at the club before being picked up by the Blues in 2019, now he has the chance to play against his former employers for the first time.

Having missed all the action since January 5, when he picked up another injury setback with a knock against Manchester City, he is finally back in contention and Chelsea have dropped a hint that he is set to be involved on Tuesday. The USMNT star may have been hoping to play a bigger part in the tie when it was drawn in November but has had to settle for this bit-part role.

Having got himself back into the side over New Year he now finds added competition in front of him domestically with Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Joao Felix and David Datro Fofana all coming in as attacking reinforcements.

The Champions League squad rules mean that only three new signings could be registered though, allowing Pulisic some leeway when it comes to selection. Plus, with regulations allowing for the entire squad to be named on the teamsheet, it means that he isn't competing for limited space on the substitutes bench.

Pulisic was confirmed as getting closer to a return ahead of the Leeds win for Graham Potter's men, training with the squad for the past week, and has now been given the green light to play in this decisive game. Ahead of the match Potter said, "Christian is in the squad."

He has a good record in the competition, scoring seven times and assisting nine across six and a half seasons in limited minutes and now there is renewed optimism that he will be able to make an impact on the field once more. The club have also sent a subtle hint that he is set for some minutes, including him on the matchday graphic ahead of the tie.

Posted on Instagram, Chelsea wrote: " Nights like these in the #UCL."

Pulisic himself has been active on social media, posting updates of his training progress and now he will finally be able to get back to doing his talking on the pitch. Although the post is far from confirmation of his role in the side it is at very least a timely message with Pulisic's history with Dortmund and his availability once more.
