Chelsea demolition, Liverpool cracker: Brentford's top five performances this season

The season is almost over and it has been a been incredible debut campaign in the Premier League for Brentford, who have gained plaudits from rival fans and those in the media alike for their brave approach since coming up from the Championship.

The Bees have one more game as they host Leeds United, who are in a two-horse race with Burnley for survival. Jesse Marsch's side are fighting for their lives and have to win and hope Newcastle can do them a favour against the Clarets. A draw would be enough providing Eddie Howe's side win at Turf Moor.

However, Thomas Frank will be going all out to win tomorrow especially with a top-half finish in sight. All Brentford have to do is win and hope West Ham win against Brighton at the Amex Stadium, with David Moyes' side needing victory to keep their hopes of Europa League football alive for next season.

A top 10 finish would be the icing on the cake, but whatever happens against Leeds, it has been a season to remember for Thomas Frank and the players. Brentford have done themselves proud with numerous top displays against some of the 'so-called' big teams.

football.london's Brentford reporter Uzzi Majid names his top five Brentford Premier League performances this season:

1) Chelsea 1-4 Brentford

A result that stunned the footballing world. Brentford's win at Stamford Bridge will never be forgotten by fans, players and those who work at the club - it was a victory that defied the odds. The Bees were the better side in the first half but were unable to make their dominance count, and the signs of a long afternoon were in sight when Antonio Rudiger's long-range effort somehow found its way in to give Chelsea the lead early in the second half.

Many would be forgiven for thinking Brentford would be the victims of an onslaught, but they showed incredible persistence and togetherness to equalise only two minutes later with Vitaly Janelt's thunderbolt coming just a day after the German signed a new contract. It got even better when Christian Eriksen sparked jubilation in the away end to give Brentford the most unlikeliest of leads, before further goals from Janelt and Yoane Wissa sealed a momentous victory.

2) Brentford 3-3 Liverpool

Many would run out of adjectives to describe what was arguably the most action-packed Premier League game this season. This game had everything in terms of drama and intensity - two teams with different objectives looking to cause the other problems. Brentford took the game to Liverpool and were rewarded when Ethan Pinnock finished at the near post for his first ever Premier League goal to give them the lead, but Diogo Jota equalised for the visitors before the break.

The second half was end-to-end with Liverpool taking the lead for the first time through Mo Salah, before the Bees pegged them back through Janelt. Curtis Jones would then give Liverpool the lead not so long after, but there was one more twist to the tale when Wissa showed incredible composure to dink the ball over Allison and make it 3-3. All three of Brentford's goalscorer scored their first ever Premier League goal that evening - and there was no better game to save them for.

The Bees almost stole victory late on when Zanka's header released Ivan Toney to score past Allison, but the striker was albeit rightly adjudged to have been offside, with Reds defender Andy Robertson just about playing him off. One positive is that the Bees will have another opportunity to do it all again next season and hope they can go one better against Jurgen Klopp's side.

3) Wolves 0-2 Brentford

Brentford's performance at Molineux was first class and what it made so impressive was that despite losing both games, Wolves had outplayed both Tottenham and Manchester United at home prior to this game, so Frank would have been forgiven for thinking the Bees would be in for a tough afternoon.

However, they were superb from start to finish, and first half goals from Toney and Bryan Mbeumo proved to be enough - although Brentford had to play 25 minutes with 10 men when Shandon Baptiste was needlessly sent off for two yellow cards. However, the Bees showed their strength of character to hang on and remarkably still restrict the home side to no shots on target despite Wolves having the extra man.

4) Brentford 2-0 Arsenal

Brentford's first ever Premier League game was a night to remember. Fans sprawling out of Kew Bridge station and taking two left turns to make their way to the stadium, many of whom were going to for the first time ever and it had the atmosphere of a Champions League final. Everyone was buzzing and couldn't wait to get inside the stadium - and little did they know how much better it would get for them.

After a lowkey 20 minutes, Sergi Canos etched himself into the Brentford history books by giving them the lead after 22 minutes, with Ben White and Calum Chambers culpable of a calamitous mix-up in defence. Arsenal never looked like troubling the home side after coming into the game with a Covid crisis, and it got even sweeter for the home fans when Christian Norgaard sealed it with a bang as he stole in after the visitors let the ball bounce into the penalty area and headed home. The scenes at full-time were something to behold and that bond and unity would prove the catalyst for a successful season for Frank's side.

5) Brentford 2-0 West Ham

It appears Brentford love a London derby in the top flight. They were superb in the win against David Moyes' side, who came to TW8 on the back of playing Ligue 1 side Lyon at home in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final. That said, it was no excuse for a lethargic display and it was a win that the Bees completely deserved from start to finish. Zanka, who played in a back four for the first time since joining the club, dealt with Michail Antonio brilliantly.

Rico Henry did a superb job on Jarrod Bowen, barely giving the Hammers forward a sniff. The win in particular, gave the fans belief that Brentford would be a Premier League side next season. Their record in London derbies has been very credible, with 21 points out of a possible 36 being taken. Frank will be hoping for even better next term, as well as looking forward to the meetings with familiar foes Fulham.
